Working for Biomet

Ah, look just playing devil's advocate, but what AVP has any power over a decent distributor? Our AVP has been trying to get our sales managers job for a while. Trying...

I really don't give a crap about this...this is a different matter. The original point of the thread had to do with whether the company adheres to its own principles of conduct, beliefs, and ethics regardless of which division, as far as I can tell so far, NO!

I work for Biomet Micro and I don't believe this division is in shambles like Ortho. It's not without it's problems though. Mgmt team is young, product development is slow, and marketing dept is a joke. But they have some solid relationships and respect with their Lorenz line. If they are looking to hire you as direct then you may never get over 150k. Distributors typically make 20% across the board so do the math with the current revenue. Stryker and Synthes both dominate the market but Biomet is a solid 3rd. There are some new products coming out that will help take some market share back. Stryker currently has the newest and best stuff but Biomet is SLOWLY releasing a set called trauma 1 that is pretty slick.

Look at the territory. Has it been dominated by one competing rep for a long period of time? How did the previous rep do? How many sets are in hospitals? These are all determining factors.

good luck. Dont let the boards scare you. It's mostly filled with disgruntle types. Go to synthes or stryker boards and you will see the same thing.

Thanks for the feedback. I actually would be taking a bit of a step down in pay based on the projections they are giving me but I would look at it as a stepping stone into the O/R and into implants. I'm currently in endo capital equipment/technology. I'm hoping I put some time in here and then will be able to move to something more lucrative. Plus I think there's a steadier revenue stream and it's a better place to ride out the economy. Does that make sense? It would be direct.

Thanks for the additional hints on who you are, we'll be keeping an eye for your lame ass.

Why are there so many shitheads at Biomet who don't know how to post on topic? Is this a sign of the low quality reps and intelligence Biomet is known for? Seriously, are there this many r*****s in this company?

You're not going to knock it out of the park being direct, but you will have the safety net of salary, benefits, etc. The revenue stream should be more steady than capital sales. Average territories hover around the 800k to 1 mill revenue mark with a decent rep, however the big ones are 4 mill. Rom what I've seen hospitals are cutting back capital budgets but there will always be facial trauma, brain tumors/subdurals, and open heart procedures. Despite the economy and people dropping insurance, most people I know will pony up to get that brain tumor removed or a busted face fixed after a car accident or beat down. Even is they dont carry insurance the hospital has to treat them so you win either way.

You really need to look at the individual territory to understand your potential for success. If they are hiring direct, it's because there probably aint a lot of revenue there. With all the new product comittees it can take sometimes 6 months to get a set into a new hospital. So ask how many hospitals have a set consigned already. No set in a hospital = no revenue from that facility.

If you have the desire to sell for an ortho company and can't get a spine or ortho intervue then this will be a good stepping stone for you. You will live in scrubs in the hospital and get to understand the OR. Have some success and you could easily parlay this gig into a 200-300k spine gig one day.

Good luck.

From the Biomet website...

When I first saw this I laughed my ass off - who came up with this BS? No. 1 is "respect for people"? what a bunch of crap!

"Why Become an Biomet Team Member?

Is this the company that all of those idiots from J&J Cordis came from. Donnelly etc...sounds kind of like the J&J Credo bullshit. They ran most of the good reps out of Cordis and then they left to go spread their toxic garbage mumbo jumbo to another co. The executive circle jerk is alive and kicking with these clowns.

There appears to be a higher amount of J&J rejects ending up at Biomet. Are times so tough that Biomet is truly this desperate?

Without doubt the least professional company going. Did a stint with them and the posters who have negative comments about this losing company are correct. There is no respect for the individual, the company IS in shambles, the leadership and distributors lie about everything and, as stupid as most of their reps are, they are very adept at stabbing each other in the back! Not only is company leadership arrogant and without scruples, it absolutely trickles down to the front-line reps who behave as if their shit doesn't stink, when in actuality the stench is making it very hard for reputable companies to do business. STAY AWAY FROM THIS SHITTY COMPANY!

What is better? Stryker? No way, they are not reputable and treat their reps like shit. They are pushing, "partnerships", reduced 8% commission, and have questionable ethics. J&J? They have their own problems and are too corporate. Try getting some custom instruments or extra inventory for your, "big" doc. The big Z? Great Job hiring Monty. How'd that work out for you? If you have problems with Biomet, no companies are that great these days. Please let me know who is and why. Believe me, I'm not drinking any cool-aid, just get real and have some honest conversations with your competitors. I'm more concerned with getting a complete revision product line and keeping bundled Medicare reimbursments off our tails.

Case....another joke there . Can't run a department nor understand the product....Where is all your new product?

Let it go N. You've moved on I hope.

I have found the distributor network and Biomet Corporate to be a joke. I worked at Corporate until finally I had enough and moved onto better things. First of all - distributors hire friends of friends, relatives, football players, actors - anyone they feel might be able to have an impact with surgeons - face it selling products that aren't the same caliber as the competition takes someone who can see these surgeons. ORS physicians will use a product not having the same quality if they like the rep. The turn over among sales people within Biomet is tremendous. Part of this is the fact that distributors hire the wrong people to begin with. The other part is specifically the training and education Biomet provides is a joke. Listening to product manager's give their partial truth information in a lecture format is not what a new sales person needs.

Second - corporate is all about the good ole boys club. It's all about who you know at Biomet and not how you do. You can do great work, but if you are not liked or part of the club they will find a way to discredit what ever you have done. So much happens that is wrong. I don't know how many product management meetings I was in on where they talked about getting this physician on board as a design surgeon because they have the potential to do well for the company. "But that physican currently does not have any business in that market, why are we using them on the design team", "because when they start designing they will start using the product" Oh I get it "so you buy the business" silence.......

If you are thinking about working for this company - think twice....about the companies ethical business practices, think about your own credibility, think about if you want to be part of a company where you will be descriminated against - Look a Dane's presentation at last years National Sales Meeting - come on telling a joke about his wife setting on a cat and the pussy between her legs. This was told in front of 800 distributor reps and all of corporate who attended. This is just plan wrong. Should have never happened....has NO place in business to be so degrading to females. So if you still want to work for a company like this then I wish you well. I hope you are ready to never challenge, just accept, do as you are told, never be creative, never object, only listen and shake your head....yes sir I will take care of that. Oh is anyone a sir wearing flip flops and a tee shirt....this is the dress code at corporate in the office area's.....

I do not experience ANY of these items being followed at Biomet Corporate.....It's all starts with the top and floats down.....This is a bunch of willy washy crap that Biomet just puts on their site to make others think they are credible. Of course the Blackman Group would like to sell them.....but who would want this mess of a company?
