Who do you really miss that has left Merck?

There is not opportunity for lawyers at Merck

Good! Lawyers suck the life out of everybody in the company, and the very breath we breath out of the room when they enter. They all suck. Nobody gives a flying f@*k about what "opportunity" there is for lawyers. Jeeeeeez .... giv eme a break. Screw the lawyers.

Hey, does that Bradley guy still work with merck? He was in corporate when I met him for an interview for a position with your headquarters, then he left a few months after to become a DM in Florida. Moved his wife and the kiddies to the sunshine state and was all excited. He was a real good egg. Wondered if he stuck around or he flew the coop? Anyone know who I'm talking about? I can't remember his last name. Real nice, good personality. Seems like he would have made a great DM.

Dan Dacerno went to some Medical Device or supply company is what I heard-not sure which one. Big loss for Merck, they should have made him a SBD years ago, geuss he got tired of waiting.

Start with Roy Vagelos, and the company goes downhill from there. While a forced retirement, he was still healthy, a sginificant force in the company and the industry, and in hindsight, probably the rudder on the ship. Why was he not kept on as Chairman of the Board until the mandatory retirement age for Board members?

What is the primary reason that talented people have left Merck? Simple, the Merck of today is not the Merck that was named the most admired corporation in America for 7 years in a row in the late 80's and early 90's. It was innovative, and had a rich pipeline of commercially attractive products. People enjoyed working for Merck, and were richly rewarded for their contributions as their stock holdings and options increased in value. Salary and bonus is not enough - you can get that anywhere.

The last major product introduction was Vioxx in 1998. Since that no longer exists, go back to Singulair in 1996, or 10 years ago. No company can grow with such a lackluster performance on new product launches, especially one that has a string of current and impending patent expiries. The math is simple to all but Ray Gilmartin (the person we miss the least).

What I most miss is the "old Merck", and I don't believe that we will ever see it again.
That liberal SOB, P.Roy Vagelos was a disaster for Merck, he dissolved the hospital reps to start the worthless Urology specialty group and sell worthless Proscar.. I don't mean totally worthless but much so in place of a world beating drug like Primaxin.. Roy should have stayed in the lab, but then we would not have Peter Kim who is miles ahead of P Roy. Remember when Roy invited that thong eating bastard 'Clinton' to Rahway and the baby barfed on him? What a hoot, it should have barfed on P.Roy!
