Whats with the super young, inexperienced DM's?

Fail? You clearly need to do more homework Opie. This drug will be used after DMARD failures and pre-Biologic when it is all said and done. Book it.

Guidance from DMs?? LOL. Who asks guidance from their DMs anymore unless you are interested in "playing the game" and getting promoted? Is this your first year in pharma sales? And then you wonder why you didn't get this job and are stuck in big pharma primary care sales about to be laid off and frustrated??

DMs in this industry are worthless with the exception of holding people accountable to meeting administrative deadlines and duties period. That doesn't happen half of the time.

I am proud to have never been in big pharma or primary care. I have built a career in biotech and understand what makes it unique. That is something that you, and many in your division do not understand. You went and hired a primary care sales force that will be crushed by the experienced players in this market.

This launch is going going to be fun to watch, just to see how badly you fail.

Senior Management has been spot on what are you talking about. The new idea to hire monkeys as counterparts was just fantastic !

I actually feel badly you are so misinformed. Take 10 minutes and Google some search words on the current and future state of pharma/biotech and what currently drives business as well as what is projected to drive business in the near future. Do that research by independent consultants, researchers, financial analysts, authors, blogs, you name it and see what their overall general consensus is? If you would stop trying to use your own personal past experiences on the old business models that used to work in this industry you would see the light. In 5 years sales people in this industry will almost have 0 value let alone DMs.

We can disagree about the value of the field force five years from now, but today an effective, experienced field force can make a difference in the specialty/biotech market. This launch will be judged by what happens in 2014, and the field force (reps and DMs) are not prepared to compete with the big biologic companies that dominate this market. Celgene chose a strategy (cheaper, less experienced) and sales results will reflect that strategy. This launch will not come close to meeting its potential because of this strategy.

Completely incorrect. Again, what you are not taking into consideration is contracting/managed care's ability to drive sales and isolate one product to win in the post Obamacare environment. For example, if Celgene signs a deal with the largest ACO in New England to place X product on the ACO formulary and they will get this product for X dollars, the cost is less than the competitor, and both medications are overall equal do you think it will matter what goofy sales person or goofy egomaniac DM walks into the doctors office? See below on how this same scenario that happened yesterday is very different that what is here today and in coming in a rapid fashion tomorrow.

As healthcare providers, ACOs and managed care companies get reimbursed less and less and at the same time are being asked to pay more in taxes (see Obamacare) and now need to cover all people with preexisting conditions, dependents until they are 26, etc, etc (see Obamacare again, basically a huge increase in cost of doing business) extremely tight prescribing policies are being enforced. Gone are the days of simply asking the nurse assistant to fill out a prior authorization to get your product. There is a tremendous amount of policy change taking place behind the scenes folks like you have no clue about or about how it is and will effect your business and your need/value to do business successfully as a sales person.

This is what is going on one big game of chance good luck with that.

Gambling is the wagering of money or something of material value (referred to as "the stakes") on an event with an uncertain outcome with the primary intent of winning additional money and/or material goods. Gambling thus requires three elements be present: consideration, chance and prize.[1] Typically, the outcome of the wager is evident within a short period.

Big biologic companies? You are so uninformed that it is comical. I would say that at least 30% of those Big Biologic company reps have their resume's circulating looking to get into Celgene. Also, what is to be so scared about the big bad biologic companies? The fact that their products have been used because there is nothing else out there? Again, you put way too much stock into the experienced biologic crap.

Stop engaging this clown. It's one bitter person. One person that keeps the thread alive. They didn't get the gig and they are pissed. But it's still one person. A boring, tired self entitled big pharma clown who is butt hurt they didn't get the best job in the industry the past decade and likely for years to come. Stop engaging and go count your option income. Count your 401k match earnings. Look around at the culture and be thankful you are here. But stop engaging this loser.

I am one of the biologic reps mentioned in this post. I was contacted by Celgene - good company, but you couldn't touch my base or bonus. Good luck with your pill. We will destroy your primary care reps.

Look at my track record. I have earned every dollar and I haven't spent 1 day chasing signatures.

Message board tough guy! Track record? I'm sure your marketing department had nothing to do with your success. Or maybe it is the millions in rebates that your company pays every year to insurance companies to keep your drug in a favorable position. Oh wait, maybe its the DTC campaign that promotes awareness for your drug to millions and millions of potential consumers. You're right...you earned it.

So true. Great post. Funny how sales people always think they are they to ones responsible for the Rxs. Talk about EGO!

That's right, Celgene won't have bonuses based on performance, you won't make business plans based on increasing sales, etc. Just go to the rheumatologists and talk about your sorority or the great party you went to this weekend.

They will pay bonuses. I just don't have as big of an ego as you do Mr. Ass Napkin!
