Re: Soon to be a Galderma rep...looking for direction
Whats going on everyone! I am in the final stages of interviewing for a derm rep position and have been reading all kinds of mixed feedback on this site about Galderma. From DM's eating too much and not working with reps to products and campaigns which are horrible.
I'm looking for some straight up truth to what I may be getting into. For someone with over 6 yrs B2B experience with an overwhelming success record, what kind of base should I expect? DM & Sr. DM seem real cool but I've been told interview faces are different faces then when it comes time to officially working together. What kind of company car is issued out of curiousity? How is managment, a lot of micromangement or just enough to let you do your own thing as long as your produce?
Any feedback is much appreciated. Thanks!
You really are from outside the industry, because you always post as anonymous, never with a name...at least your real name. Also, you will never get good straight answers on here, most people will fuck with you or whine...but I'm going to make an exception.
You can expect a $65-70k base with about $8-10k/qtr in bonus. The DMs are really hit or miss. What division are you looking at? Give me a general area of the country and I can be more specific about what to expect from manager. You will drive a Chevy Traverse. You will be micro-managed, especially since the company has not been making its number and spending far too much on copay cards to get any kind of coverage for patients. You will have at least 1 ride per month with manager, and an occasional home office person. You will attend 3 meetings per year plus usually one training per year. Your quotas will be out of whack and you mighy have a hard time hitting them.
As for the company, it's on a slow downward spiral. It's too heavy on sales reps and definitely too heavy on middle management, so everyone is trying to justify their jobs. There are no big products in the pipeline, just line extensions that many docs are getting tired of. It was a cream, now its a lotion. It was a .1 now its a .3. For years the company grew on ridiculous increase on one drug, differin which had great coverage and was unique. Now, Epiduo has horrible coverage, one division has no drugs and Cetaphil is losing to Cerave. Galderma has peaked and is on the slow slide down.
If you are looking to get into the industry there is nothing better than derm, and Galderma is still a strong name. However, the worm will turn and doctors are going to really catch on. You can only buy so much business.
What should scare you the most are the number of posts relating to people quiting or being fired in the last 12-18 months. Some people were stupid and called nailed others were blindsided by politics and retribution. Others have seen the writing on the wall and gotten out while the getting is good. Although I'm here and just trudge through each day, I always have my eyes open for another opportunity. I've made in roads with recruiters and connected with some managers in the area to be aware of anything that opens up. I have won all the awards here and the first ones I won were much richer than the ones you win today. I mean a cruise...really! No more Cartier watches and base level Rolexes for PI. I took the cash this year, and that wasn't all that good either!
Good luck, hope this helps!
