What Leadership?

Fact is we have a lot of good DM's. And most DM's are in a management position because they are able to see the big picture. Most of our reps can't see the big picture and can't handle multiple tasks- which is why they are spoon fed to focus on "1 thing at a time". Not saying we don't have some good reps that can make the transition because we do- but it will be much easier for the DM's. They just think and act different.

That said just lost another senior leader to Seattle Genetics- lot of people going there.

Account Managers, BAMS, RGM's and DM's have not called on doctors for ages and have no idea the level of groveling it takes to get into accounts these days. I am looking forward to watch these people try to get appointments like the cattle calls with 80 reps in line at 7:00 AM every quarter. AHR is a big chunk of business but the truth is every franchise is being challenged with new competition that is as good or better then Genentech products. I think it is going to be tough for everyone who stays.

LOL - that's a good one. You're funny
Furtherest from the truth pal.
Every time mgmt ever visited my "ecosystem" I had to remind them of the geography, market dynamics etc. What better person to work the ecosystem than the workhorses who are already there?
Some may understand I agree, but thats the minority.

A long time back Ian Clark stated from the main stage at NSM that GNE needed to get better at the business side because their lead in the science side was eroding and would continue to do so.

He was correct, but is this the solution or the collapse?

Just take a look at the meager pipeline and there's your answer.

Newsflash: Account Managers, BAMs, and RGMs still won’t be calling on doctors. They’ll either be directors or on to greener pastures. None of the ones I’ve spoken to have any interest in being TAMs.

If these people somehow get selected to be directors, that would put the final nail in Genentech's coffin. None of them understand the markets. They definitely have no people leadership. They have been in meetings for the past 5 years. What do they bring to the table?

At least the CSs know where all the Starbucks are...

Obviously written by a no talent Manager or Home Office shill. Most of the Reps laugh at Management and Marketing because they lack understanding regarding current market conditions. As someone eluded to in another thread everyone but the CS simply attend meetings and work on nonsensical projects. The CS in the field generates revenue and implements their own strategy, despite Marketing believing they are changing the world with tactics that are recycled from years ago. TAM’s should be filled by the CS who understands the geography, not by young, wet behind the ears, corporate ladder climbers.

This is what amazes me about GNE and their use of resources, such as, Marketing. We’re known as the pioneers of Biotechnology, but only known within our industry because we don’t BRAND properly to outside interest. We are too busy pleasing ourselves and not the patients. We have our competitors constantly airing their commercial of their medication. I know, I know. Those commercials are cheesy and corny. But that’s not the point. They are catchy. Those companies are BRANDING their company. Instead of throwing concerts which only serves to preach to the choir. Genentech could have easily sponsored or promoted a concert for patients or possible future parient base as, get this, a marketing tool. I would fire everyone in marketing and just start all over. There’s no shame in starting over. We need compete properly in the industry by making the right adjustments or its GAME OVER.

Genentech can easily market by spending on a SuperBowl commercial. Or on the NBA Finals. Or the World Series. This would better serve all Genentech employees than a concert.

Gene spends its money overpaying these consultant-turned-marketers. The company is paying them based on their educational credential, not their industry insight or knowledge. When they don't know or want to do some things, they hire more consultants/vendors! You wonder why we suck. This business model is totally flawed and unsustainable. Yes, they need to cut the field force big time. We have too much dead weight in bio-onc. However, we need to purge the entire SSF marketing department! They are some of the most worthless people in the industry.

As the decisions are being made in the next few weeks, it will continue to bring out the worst of the people in this company. Seeing who get selected for the field leadership roles in the pioneer ecosystems will tell us what this company has become. My guess is that Gene will be the butt of the joke in biotech very soon. After almost 20 years, I cannot think of a worse moment than what I am seeing now. My package looks better by the hour. Perhaps it's time for many of us to walk away from this hot mess.

“Will be the butt of the joke”? Try already is. I left 2 years ago on my terms and hear from higher ups in my company that they would prefer reps from companies other than fear of Gene. The entitlement and self righteousness demonstrated in interviewing Gene reps over the past few years has turned off many a hiring manager. No humility and integrity was demonstrated.
