What Are You Listening To Now?

Speaking of Chet Atkins, here he is with and old acquaintance of mine who did some backup vocals on a demo of my fledgling publishing company back in the 70s. These guys are just unbelievable guitar players and both very humble people. I can't imagine sitting next to Chet Atkins with a guitar in my hand, knowing I was going to pick with him and not being scared shitless.

Seems like Chet Atkins made people feel very comfortable to pick with him - Very laid back and almost shy about how talented and influential he was - Your friend was very fortunate to sit next to him.

Just watched 'Under the Influence' w/ Keith Richards on Netflix. If you have Netflix, watch this. A lot of good music w. the Stones and the Expensive Winos plus just a lot of musical insight into how the Stones recorded and mementos of them showcasing Chuck Berry, Howlin' Wolf, etc. I agreed w/ P Ho a long time ago that (technically speaking) Richards was no way the #8 all time best guitarists listed by Rolling Stone Magazine but when it comes to his concepts of building hit songs in the studio through overdubbing and adding tracks, the man is/ was amazing. Anyway, good show, didn't describe Anita Pallenberg's BJs like the book did but for 1 hour and 20 minutes of TV, I recommend it.

The Winos were an awesome band. Those songs are still on my I-Tunes. Also, the Video for "Wicked as it Seems" is still an all-time favorite.

Frank Zappa's widow passed today. I never got really into him (except when I was loaded) until I heard this one Little Richard song (at 6:21) on an album. Later I met his sons (Dweezil & Ahmet) at a party at a friend's house and they were REALLY nice guys. Dweezil is an exceptional guitar player and my pal said his biggest problem was ‘playing songs that were too simple.’

Anyway, take a listen at 6:21 (you can slide your cursor along). Great take on a little Richard bump and grind song that white kids had orgasms on with their girlfriends in Jr High.

Cleaning out the office ran across 'Banded Together' featuring main guys Lee Ritenour, Phil Collins, Carlos Vega (Jas Taylor's drummer) and Nathan East (One of Clapton's favorite bass players) Love this song, Sunset Driving, about cruising along on Sunset Blved back I the day while getting a BJ (up in the front seat, behind the wheel, she's makin' music out of cold blue steel).
