Common denominator - Wes Wheeler was CEO of both within the last 15 years. The guy can turn companies around, so quit your bitching. Large holding companies only care about results, and that is what he delivers. Its a wonder why he hasn't been picked up for bigger company turn-arounds. Marken lucked out by picking him up - hardest working guy I've ever met. Don't hate the player, hate the game... then quit, because this is America and we are an at-will employment country.

Wow! You are loyal, wonder who you could be and what your getting in return!

Talk about the Ego has landed, how delusional to claim within a 15 year time frame a single individual (who was only at these companies for a brief period) was instrumental in this success.

A rodent works hard when running in its exercise wheel. However it just goes in circles!

Actually these Companies have seen great success since firing Wheeler. In Patheon case it took several years to reverse the damage he did. Its why he was so abruptly removed from his position. Read the press releases, hardly an endorsement of the man or the regime he dictated! A bit rich for anyone to claim he was in anyway linked to the success. I suppose in your mind as he worked at GSK, he must have been responsible for them also!

If you want another success story look at Marken valuation before Wheeler arrived $1.6b now $600m in debt, owned by banks, sales falling month by month. Costs risen under Wheeler to unsustainable levels, with inflated wages paid to people like the poster above so that they sing Hail to the Chief. The talent that was Marken has all but gone to the competition, leaving us with a*** kissing, ineffectual cowards who are so intimidated by the CEO and his erratic decisions they phone to enquire as to his mood for the day so they know how to manage him or even if to approach him.

Oh yes... he can turn them around... just what way ???? as other post suggest - do your research before posting.
Talent has left Marken all across the world...even...a shocker...in America. People have left because they could not stand it any more. All we ever wanted was to do our job which we love and are good at and make Marken successful, which also worked until the new regime.

NOTE - this is not a smear campaign against Wes and this thread was not started by Marken staff but on GSK wall :) by companies he worked at before... gotta love the irony... if only WW was as good as you preach, this thread would not exist.

Best wishes @ Happily working for competitor.

Newsflash: Marken have branches in other countries, not just America. I can see this might be difficult for you to understand....amongst other things...
Don't embarrass yourself and perhaps do some travel or at least watch discovery channel.
PS: this is Europe :)))

Latin-America also not working well , Mexico Drivers Strike last week requesting better salary !!! Strike in Mexico!!!! Congrats to the management , the disastrous situation of Marken is reflected everywhere !!!! Thanks WW for making things easier for our competitors.

Is there any hope for Marken to grow? What does the future look like?

I was just offered a position with Marken. Making $15k - $20k better salary with a much better title to boot.

I want to jump on it but after reading these posts I am not so sure. Thanks for any advice.

Don't do it unless you are into sadomasochism.

Marken is a shitty, shitty, shitty, company that treats their people like shit.

And if you are in any way related to sales or operations..RUN away as fast as you can.

Thanks for the honesty. I mean is there any positive to say about this company? Would I be at great risk of being fired if I couldn't "cut-it"?

Thanks again.

Thinking of joining Marken finance but a bit confused after reading all this. The investors seem to be happy with the performance (don't know about Wes). Finance has seen a lot of changes. Can anybody comment about what employees think of finance, I have heard there have been a number of changes there too in the last few years. Thanks.

I think it depends whether you are in sales or operations. Operations people are abused, mismanaged, and their lives are made miserable. But Marken used to be run by operations and now it is swinging towards sales.

In the sales department, well...what can I say? Europe is doing well but that is only because of Sascha S....all the other sales people don't get any real accounts to work with, and then get blamed or fired when nothing comes about.

In the USA, forget it. I mean, you have Ariette who does not support her sales teams beyond asking what the are selling, piss poor management, no support, no leadership. Bad handling of accounts, high expectations with ZERO support.

And BOTH in the USA and Europe, good luck getting commissions in any efficient way, or even being able to see a commission statement. There is ZERO administration because Marken doesn't care about its sales people. You will have to fight tooth and nail with client expectations, operations, politics, legal (Dooa, don't even get me started on her....)

Overall, stay away. There are much better companies that have their shit together way better than this motley crew.

Wes is corporate slime, doesn't care about anything but himself, his image, is a tiny, insecure man who should be nowhere near leading a company.

Good luck to you, but I'd say stay away unless you want to make your life miserable.

This seems to be a reoccurring theme here. WW....

But, what about Gerit and the CTD project management department? Any thoughts?

The deal with Gerit & CTD...It is their biggest push to get this service up and running.

It has a "if you build it, they will come" type of mentality but not necessarily set up for success. Out of all of the services, I would say it has the brightest future, but still a long way to go and no significant sales for all the investment they have made.

Marken is a transportation company that has tried to get fancy and put a lot of clinical and other experts onboard to make them seem other than what they are, but at the end of the day, they are an old school transportation company...getting stuff from A to B.

The only reason they went into CTD is because World Courier does it.

Thanks for the advice and insight. It does make me feel better. I just hope this company doesn't get bought out and Gerit is a good person to work for.

Clearly you already work at Marken and are using this to generate debate about yourself.

Hope the Company does not get bought out!!!

Marken is 100% Bank owned, this bad debt must be recovered/mitigated! Marken has to be sold and sooner rather than later. When it is sold all these inflated salaried people will need to be cut as their salaries cannot be justified as they are paid for one thing and that is to keep staff until a sale. This strategy only seems to have worked for the least talented/experienced staff who have stayed to take the blood money. Last 3 years Marken must have lost more than 150 members of staff (at least a third) of all staff and nearly 100% of the the experienced, motivated management, senior & experienced staff.

That's what I was reading. It is concerning to say the least.

Regarding my employment status, I am not employed by Marken at this current time. I may be offered a position but, I want to be sure I will have a job a year from now if I join. I don't want to walk in and 6 months later find myself unemployed.

If anything, this is fueling an internal debate within myself. All of your thoughts and opinions are welcome.
