We should all be very worried!

With HCP's becoming for the most part "corporate" and not private (at all) they are told HOW to practice medicine. Yes it's been this way for years but each year that noose gets tighter and tighter around their necks which means WE get choked out. The game is national accounts and speciality (briefly) for now. Yes go to all the other boards and read how bad access has become, C-19 is a death nail. Nothing lasts forever and this sales model is a dinosaur.

I'm definitely not some super rep but to honest the access pre and post Covid isn't that different. Before access was pretty bad. Post I've had a few offices that are slow to open up. Allowing us to send samples virtually is a bad idea and not well thought out.

I disagree. Novartis is simply adjusting to the new normal. There will be a great reduction of field reps in the upcoming months. There will be more focus on virtual consultation and distance support, with a few live reps available covering massive territories for the one-off personal visit requests from the customer. The day of the old pharma rep job had ended. It’s time for you to plan what your next job will be!

Who’s going to cut us? The VP of sales? The president of Sales? Head of marketing? Think about that. If they cut us, their job is what? Gone. What’s the incentive for CEO’s to cut us? To give them significantly less people to be above? Doesn’t that diminish their job? They are no longer worth their pay then. I know people joke that Pharma reps are “useless”, but don’t underestimate the value of your relationships with doctors and your natural abilities. Sales comes in all forms. To us this job is simple because it’s second nature to us to interact with random people, speak in front of a group, have a back-and-forth conversation with people who are way above our education level. But to the majority of the world, talking in front of a group gives them hives. Drumming up conversation hour after hour day after day is near impossible for so many socially awkward people. We don’t see any of it as a talent because it’s a natural attribute we are born with. It is not something you can teach so clearly it has to be innate. I know I’ll catch some slack for this, but I really believe that just because we dont typically work 8am-5pm 5 days a week doesn’t mean we aren’t worth what we make. We DO increase HCP’s knowledge and awareness of drugs

If I had a dollar’s first every year someone said “the day if the old pharma rep is over ”. Well we’re still here and I’ve been hearing that literally got over a decade

I realize we're consistently told we're the best of the best, but look at what Novartis did to their reps in 2010. Right before Thanksgiving, we were told no layoffs and shortly thereafter (a week or two), we were told to wait for our phone calls. Over 50% of reps gone, even President's Club reps.

Novartis will always do what's best for Novartis, regardless of what the optics are.

There is absolutely no security in this industry any more!!

the best of the best, in the worst industry in the world, is not saying much.

wow, you people are so dense, its scary.

They can now monitor how many hours are worked in a day.....no driving time. Cut all those crazy bagel budgets, reps work an honest 8 hour day.......there are some cuts on the way. It will make people wish for 2010

2011 was very similar. I wish I could go back to Novartis. (had to sign a ineligible for re-hire to get severance) I really enjoyed my job and had great relationships with my docs.
