Good guess. A Merck employee not getting this important e-mail? What a troll. If I am at a meeting someone would have picked this e-mail up and shared with everyone before "rah rah session" is over.
More like I'm not a lowly sales rep! The whole COMPANY got the standard HR email about package and pension changes and just about the whole company expects you sales whiners to be outta here (not) soon enough. So maybe there was a sales specific kiss off email - those of us in sales did not get it.
Typical of this board full of you whining sales jack-holes, anyone who doesn't agree with the unsubstantiated claims on here or offers a plausible alternative must be a troll. Go sling another deli tray.

Dumb and completely out of touch. Sales people bring home the revenue to pay for everyone's paychecks. The "lowly" sales rep is the one that knock on door and get a Merck product used so we can make $$. At the next meeting why don't you recommend the total elimination of the sales force and then see what's going to happen to Mother Merck? When you sit in your office or cubicle today, remember who is bringing home the $$ to pay for that chair, the monitor you are staring at, the heat in the office, and the water that flush the toilet, etc. Lastly, kid, the rep that sling that deli tray keeps us from going under. If that happen, your job will be outsourced to India. Then you will find those deli tray slinging reps very important to your livelihood. Kid.
Merck isn't going to eliminate the sales force. They're going to replace it.
HQ aka 'the troll' aka 'kid' - yes, THIS is what we are all hoping for - a sales force that costs less and delivers results. My job can't go to India - thank you SEC! I know how this company actually makes money and the lack of top line growth tells me you glorified lunch delivery jockeys are NOT earning your keep. Bring on Inventiv!
Replace it with low paid kids or retirees on a pension....The only ones who can work for few bucks and zero or grade D bennies....
You can look at this two ways:
1- Merck doesn't have enough drugs to sell that justify a sales force with high pay and good benefits.
2- The overpaid, pension earning sales force isn't delivering results that justify their existence.
Either way, the answer is to get a lower paid, outsourced, sales force with a contract that makes the company they work for (Inventiv) responsible for results. The results Inventiv delivers determines the level at which they are paid. Sell more, Inventiv is paid more. Sell less, Inventive is penalized. It's all in the contract and affords Merck a way to pay for what the sales services are actually worth and not the same salary for reps who do and don't deliver.
Is R&D and our fat paycheck execs on the same plan? For "one and all" should be the motto and the rule!
Have you been under a rock or smoking one? I know you're not out selling. R&D IS being outsourced to China. The Executive Ivory Tower will only get the boot once their golden parachutes have been fully polished. It'll be awhile longer for them...

How out of touch are most of you people? The current administration just doubled the voluntary discount Pharma committed towards Medicaid/care in the new budget. This administration is no friend of Pharma's. Unless you already don't have a job or have never had a job this administration is not your friend, either.
Think the Republicans will be better? Unless you are a CEO or a 'corporation' you're shit out of luck. The middle class gets the shaft coming and going - welcome to the new America.
GOP will not be on the job export bandwagon like this administration....
GOP is on pushing the "Made in America".....getting businesses up and running and keeping the jobs here in THIS country.
Remember this wise man on CP told you this. "Everyone is replaceable at Merck and no one is indispensable."
There is always a disconnect between folks like you and the sales reps. People at the HQ start to believe sales reps (cheap or expensive) are the necessary evil and the HQ folks possess all the knowledge.
BTW, kid, if you don't have at least 5K to 10K shares of Merck stocks in your name or higher you should not talk like a big shot.

Old Farty - don't confuse yourself with the salesforce. My comments were certainly not directed at you - i thought the skid mark that got us to our present state had thrown all of you over. The 'old school' reps helped make this company what it was. I'm sorry those who took the reigns from PRoy hosed us all. Your job is just easier to farm out than mine.
I'm not in sales at all but the sales results are very important to the work I do, specifically the more disappointing the numbers are, the more I have to pressure other areas. For whatever reasons the sales org as a whole has been sucking the wind out of our sales for too long. Talk to your 15x15 buddies who are out doing anything but sales work. They have sharpened the blade with Inventiv's name on it. Sales is just the next domino in the cost cutting array.
I'd sell those shares if I were you. Our emperor has no clothes and you'll have no profit the day it becomes obvious. I've sold all I had over time and by your definition, I'm quite the big shot!
This administration is the red carpet treatment for those who have live off the system.....for those of us with self-respect, ambition and a the work hard mentality its punishment time....getting ahead is a thing of the past.....your money will go to support ambition-free.
