This is truly a company made up of idiots...

Sorry to say this, but this company is sort of imbecilic at this point...

sure, there are those reps that get MBAs and might have once had ambition and smarts
in college, but Merck kills that off quickly...

the managers are almost all universally buffoons and nitwits...

I know that I am doing a lot of name calling here, (which I try and refrain from in intelligent discourse) but there is no other way to describe the way this company is run...

It is almost like every bad decision that can be made, is made...this company does absolutely nothing right, other than fighting the mountains of litigation with ferocity. (Frazier!!)

Do yourself a favor and tell friends and family to boycott Merck and their snake oil medicines and vaccines...

that is the only way the thiefs that run the comapny will be sent a message...

Unfortunately, these idiots are well paid idiots too. Check out what some of the exec team got in options while most of us got a 1% merit increase. Truly disgusting!

Exactly why I don't feel the least bit guilty at doing my 15x15 thing. Hell, I think I may go down to 10x15. (Ten hours a week until 2015). Three hours a day is getting too much anyway. Some days I just check email and VM a couple times. I may work 4 hours one day and 30 minutes the next. Meanwhile, Peter Kim is exercising tons of options and laughing all the way to the bank. Hey, I can't exercise any options, but at least I'm laughing!

FU Merck!

Signed,

The 15x15 Guy or possible future 10x15 Guy

Wait until you get an IPAD little man. I think Merck would frown on having the tracker/locator turned off. It knows where you are every minute of the day. Let me rephrase that. It knows where IT is every minute of the day and the company wants it with you. That is the rub. Good luck with that. Until then, enjoy your 10 x 15. I am doing a 20 x 15 plan to ease my guilt.

Let's all look into the fact that the iPad tracker is turned off and the company wants to know why. Wonder what an attorney would say for this? Are they going to track when we're doing expense reports or programs or other Merck work after 5 or on the weekends? Where does the invasion of privacy come into play? Come on - I'm sure there are some attorney's out there that can see if this is a violation or not - they can't have an emergency all day, every day!!!

sorry to burst your bubble Cochise, but even if you are right, you have to attempt to due battle with Merck's ferocious team of lawyers...and they almost always win because they have more money than you, and time is on their side...

The computer truly killed the drug rep job, and the IPAD is another nail in the coffin...

Why do you even care what happens to other reps with the IPAD? Oh, you are probably some selfish prick CTL or LEVR trying to intimidate folks or gathering information for your master. Pathetic.

IPAD or no IPAD I don't really give a damn anymore. There are ways around it anyway and I have it figured out already so there is no rub here with me. I have left my territory for a week and didn't report it earlier this year and I'm still here. I will do it again even with an IPAD and I won't get caught. Even so, I really don't think Merck employs an "IPAD Tracker Guy" to track everyone's IPAD location each and everyday. Like I said, I'm not the least bit worried anyway.

If my manager and DCO wants to play games with me that's fine. I have a nice fat file of policy violations on each of them as well as recordings. I will be doing my 15x15 or 10x15 or maybe 2x15 as long as I want and keep cashing my checks. When you don't care anymore it's a great feeling. I have no more stress and my life is much better.

Regards,

The 15x15 guy

Please share with the rest of us how you are doing this...I for one would love to know.

If you're going to do it, I think you've got the only viable approach to take. Do you think your management knows of your file? Obviously you are a pretty shrewd individual. I also got to the point where I had to no longer give a shit about Merck, I worked my way, and if management wanted to get me, bring it on. Unfortunately, I didn't have a file or any recordings and ended up with a target on my back. Merck may not have an "IPAD Tracker Guy" but they certainly do have some rather surprising resources to utilize whenever they wish to target a rep. Unless reps are using your tactics, rep paranoia has to be epidemic.

Too bad we have to worry about being tracked with the iPad. The Find my iPhone/iPad feature is designed for security reason to locate and track/erase data should your iPhone or iPad is stolen.

Just face it. It is a horrible job now. Once it was the envy of every other salesperson. Now, I think everyone pretty much knows the job is a joke. It is high stress due to how much is not really sales and not in the individual's control, wrought with meaningless reports and busy work, overun by useless management and with goals that someone makes up based on whether they want to keep you or not. I just wish I had some other skill to get out of this nightmare. It is a horrible way to live and I do not care what anyone says. The only way to handle it might be the 15 x 15 approach but that is only going to work for so long.

If you're not working a full day in your territory like most reps then one could say you are already "stealing"

It is a horrible job now no doubt...I tried the 15 X 15 thing for awhile, but while it is somewhat satisfying to get paid for screwing Merck back a bit, it is ultimately as debilitating as the job itself, and doesn't solve the fundamental problem that all of us pharma reps, (especially, older career reps like me) have...

No transferable skills, and the fact that employers are hip now to the pharma rep job being a sham...

out of work for two years now and still looking...

FU MERCK!!

If you're not working a full day in your territory like most reps then one could say you are already "stealing"

how could you even find enough real work with customers to fill a whole day now...

our interactions are pointless for the most part, and there is absolutely no new, valuable information to give them on our products...

the only reason the drug rep job still exists is because big pharma for some reason wants to keep paying tons of money to thousands of middle managers...(and the managers need reps)
