Things I was NOT told during my interview - BEWARE:

I asked what attrition was like and I was told most TMs are here for "years and years." Turns out, only about 10 have been here for that long. The typical tenure is only 18 months.

I asked how many TMs made their commission since $75,000 is too low a salary for my family. I was told that the majority did. However as long as I've been here, only about 30% have made commission. So far, I've made little over my base and my family is eating away at savings.

I was told there would be a 401k match. The manager said nothing about having to wait 6 years for it. Has anyone ever heard of a 6 year vesting requirement?? Another hit to my family.

I was told night and weekend work was infrequent. I didn't mind working "infrequently" at those times, so that was fine. But it turns out that *most* of my work bleeds into evenings and weekends. Not because my customers are a pain, but because the night and weekend support staff at ZOLL are understaffed by half and those that are there are stressed out or downright rude or obstructionist. Hit #3 to my family.

I was told there was lots of room for growth. Turns out, I'm the 5th TM in this area in 4 years and the doctors are pissed at the terrible service. This territory has been cut 3 times in recent years and the same growth is expected of my tiny territory as was expected when it was 3x larger. Spoiler alert: there may be room for growth, but not at the pace expected in this tiny territory = no commission, hit #4 to my family.

I was told I only needed to sell one new LifeVest every 2 weeks to make goal. What they left out was that I needed one LifeVest with a *paying* insurance policy every 2 weeks. Once I account for insurances that don't cover it, indigent patients, Medicaid, high deductibles, plans with no coverage for medical equipment, etc. it turns out I need 6 orders per 2 weeks to get 1-2 paying ones. And then sometimes, they can still reverse money from prior orders and keep you from making goal. Zoll: 5. My family: 0.

You know, I read this stuff on cafe pharma before i took this job, so shame on me I guess. But I couldn't possibly fathom that a company of this size would lie by omission the way they did. I feel sick to my stomach. My new job search has already begun. But I write this for anyone else considering a job here. BELIEVE IT. IT IS ALL TRUE IF NOT WORSE.

Zoll is a company on the rise. Morale is improving and we are poised to corner the market.

Same thing happened to me. So bad that I called my recruiter to complain and she said she'd had similar complaints from others. I can't believe how different the job is from what they said in the interview. I would never ever taken it if I knew it would be like this.

I left the company and the industry two years ago but recently bumped into an EP that used to be a speaker for me and a big writer. We chatted for a few minutes and he told me his entire practice has given up because they never know who their rep is and they lost faith in the process. This guy was a big deal in a big market. I saw the writing on the wall when I left and this indicates to me that the road I knew they were going down has finally ended up where I thought it would.

I was told I could take vacation from being on call. But there is no one to cover for me. Once a customer called zoll directly because I took a day off and that doctor never ordered again. Said it was the worst experience ever. How can I take any vacation when doing so hurts my business so much? I can't wait until I'm out of here.

There isn't any real vacation from this job. Who gives you a certain amount of days and then says that if you want Christmas Day off that comes out of those days, Thanksgiving out of the same days. After taking out 1 day for the major holidays, you get 2 weeks vacation at best. Of course you're always answering calls or fixing a problem due to no staffing with "support people". Worst job ever!

I was recently hired. I read this stuff, but didn't believe it could possibly be this bad. Now I'm talking to my counterparts in neighboring territories and I'm scared out of my mind. Haven't made a penny in commission. Eating through savings. Everything here is true. STAY AWAY. I am so mad for being misled. Did my manager think I wouldn't figure this out? Or is he just that desperate to find someone to hire?

I was told I'd get like 3-4 weeks of "vacation" - that was important to me because that's what I had at the job I left. But it turns out, all holidays are subtracted out of that. So it only ended up being 2 weeks of "vacation" - that's in quotes because I never get a day of vacation. I'm always dealing with customer issues. I could have lived with 2 weeks of vacation, but I think its pretty slimy that they massaged how they said it that way. Can't believe about the 401k match too. Just very slimy.

There there my incompetent fool. Zoll is A MANS WORLD where vacation shouldn't matter. Go back to Pharma or teach third grade and you will be knee deep in vacation Sally.

Sally, nice one.

The truth is that the previous poster are telling the truth. But, its their own fault for being so naive to trust recruiters, or to trust any company in corporate America.

Whenever I get a quote, for a bonus potential, I automatically cut that by 50%. That is what I usually get as well, even though I have made my numbers.

Also, you have to assume the manager is going to be a total tool box, because most managers are in management because they were lazy, good for nothing reps that don't like to sell. In fact, most of they are afraid of customers. It is so much easier to have a full office day on Friday in their underwear, and only do a few calls during the week with their hard working reps.

The truth is that you got sucked into a bad situation. The next step is to stick it out for a year, if possible, and then start looking. Or, just keep looking now, and take it off your resume.

The absolute worst thing you can do is complain about your situation. You made the mistake. Own up to it. Make a game plan to exit out.

Good luck.

True in most cases. Not true in this case. There is only so much research one can do. If the actual interviewers are purposely misleading candidates just to fill jobs, that is a legitimate problem. Even though the message is consistent on Café Pharma, it is nearly impossible to believe a place could be this backward. I could never have conceived of such dysfunction without experiencing it personally. It is just too bizarre to believe.

This isn't written by Sally, she wants out more than anyone! People can't believe she is still here. Word has it she is leaving soon, new start-up with international device company.

This was extremely helpful to me. I used this to ask questions on my interview and the whole tone changed. A lot of long winded non-answers. So glad to have read this before I made a huge mistake!!!

Well, the recruiters are not exactly telling lies. You see the leadership and hiring manager share with the recruiter all the information that they need to share with candidates to fill the open job. Of course Zoll shares with the recruiter that the previous rep or manager was the problem, "they didn't know how to sell, or they weren't really that good, etc I'm looking for a better fit with someone that can sell." Zoll lies to the recruiters and then the recruiters share the same lie to you. You believe that the previous person/s were not as good as you are and the whole thing continues. Zoll yes, recruiters buy the lie, you believe the lie because you're all that and they hire you. Now you find out everyone lied and you're looking for your exit strategy like the last sucker. Now the manager will tell the recruiter you weren't that good or couldn't sell and it all starts over with some other sucker who believes the ton of bull that's being slung here every day.

This is why it is almost NEVER good to switch jobs unless you have inside information on the job, from a previous manager or rep that you have worked for.

Zoll was an easy one for me to pass on.

The product sucks.
