The truth. A must read if you work at Genentech!

GSK has one of the worst reputations in industry. I would never consider going there. Do they still have MBO instead of real compensation?
I worked at GSK years ago, (when it was Glaxo), and it was the GNE of big pharma - a great place. Afraid we're heading down the same path of destruction. Maybe Hal can provide some magic for them but a big hill to climb.

Agree with post above regarding oncology reps. Shame on Genentech for putting itself in that situation. Other franchises are not FAT and are still driving business in competitive market. Sounds like no one is safe though. Guess we have to wait & see!

The Truth is that Genentech turned their back on the retina community by not pursuing FDA approval of Avastin resulting in MDs trying to save the system and patients money and in the end running into issues with compounded Avastin. Doing the right thing would have been to receive approval, package and prefilled syringes and positioned Lucentis as the second line choice.

GENE arrogance and greed!!!!!

Many of us in BioOnc have been told that although cuts are going to be really deep (70-80%) that many of us will be moved to other areas specifically Neuroscience. Management will be using this to get rid of many of the “bad eggs” on our MS team. Things are going to really look different around here but I’m confident that performers (TMs) will have spots.

TM = a$$ kisser not performance based promotion. No need for that mentality in the new Genentech business model. Hope your resume is updated.

unless you believe our rankings aren't based upon performance- but they are. Sounds like you haven't had many promotions. Its you who should be keeping your resume updated cause cuts are coming. Management is already identifying who they need to keep.

OG author here – someone saw fit to copy the first post from another thread. Thank you for that.

I know that I said I would not be back, but due to the above this has kind of taken on a life of its own, and from what I heard is being “countered” by leadership as rumor only. So I am coming back to breathe more life into the situation to help the folks out there that may be questioning the validity of the above. My advice: “don’t drink the koolaid”. Acquiring the details of this information will require some homework on the readers part though…

All GNE field: Start asking questions to your NSDs (not RSDs or DMs) about how the current sizing structure does not account for everything – especially access restricted accounts. What has the “research” shown that is need to fully account for the above?

BioOnc field: Start asking questions to your NSDs (not RSDs or DMs) about what this acronym means “CSS”. The name of the pilot I referenced in the first post has changed. It is still coming but will be called something else, but I am not sure what. Execution timeline still the same as of now - Sept/Oct timeframe.

HomeOffice: The outcome of the two things above should be all of evidence you need to know that my original post is accurate. Massive changes in the field structure necessitate massive changes in the commercial HO structure, stop being delusional.

Message to Sr. Leadership: If you want to know who is leaking this information…look in the mirror. On the one hand I admire you all selectively sharing information with others – I am confident this is related to feelings of guilt for those to be impacted. On the other hand, you can do more. Be transparent with the direction things are going – give folks a warning so not blindsided. Follow GC example to AHR…

Message to VPs & up: Look around – trust in people leaders is no longer implicit in this country. This has to be earned and the foundation of that trust is transparency which you are not being at the moment, hence the growing lack of trust in you. Everyone knows that secrets are impossible to keep at GNE especially ones of this magnitude. You seem to be operating under the premise of decision making akin to “it’s not personal, it’s just business”. Let me enlighten you: business is one of the most personal things in life. First off GNE is made of people and without people the business would not exist, ergo “people = personal”. Second, business generates employment which gives income to people to support themself and family. Also, business generates opportunities to develop relationships with others. When a “business decision” gets made that results in loss of employment that decision directly impacts the people, their families, and their personal relationships with colleagues. business = personal

For others that continuing to read the “it’s not personal, it’s just business” mantra is a lame excuse used by people not being impacted by the decisions being made. When folks making those decisions are also going to be impacted (see mirror comment above), they will likely still make the decision but they will invariably share information with others either out of guilt or frustration with the situation.

Message to Chief AH: You came back to GNE with a glowing legacy which brought hope to the masses. Your predecessor started “Transformation” – don’t let transformation be YOUR legacy. Reach back to your IMPACT days and bring out some of that genuine leadership you displayed with Pegasys - everyone is watching...

I don't believe its personal like the OG implies. It is business. Bottomline we are paid a lot of money to work a few hours a week- I know many reps who never even leave the house except for a couple of lunches a month that they setup online. Our customers don't want/need to see us as much as we would like. We are going to be losing a bunch of revenue to biosimilars and our "pipeline" is pretty weak. Definitely nothing is going to replace what we are losing.

Time to move on and get with another company with a new product and ride that out. I'm just hoping I can time everything right to get a decent severance while starting somewhere new. I'm hoping we get at least 3 months + 2-3 weeks per year of service.

Its not personal its just how this industry works.

Might as well take this opportunity to consolidate under the name Roche, cause this place sure doesn’t look anything like Genentech.

Used to be some value to the Genentech name in the market, but not anymore.
