The Review Process is the Worst I Have Seen It....

I just joined Astellas in the last year after interviewing with many companies and you guys overall had the best benefits I had seen.

There are plenty of companies out there with just 2 weeks vacation and no Xmas shutdown. I would be surprised to hear that anyone else in the industry offers the friday afternoon thing. The 6% match on 401k is nice as is the other 5.5% (even though it takes a bit too long to earn the maxes on that stuff IMO.

There are some big pharma things, but unfortunately every pharma company out there has ex-gsk, ex-pfizer, ex-novartis and they institute their processes. THe only way to avoid it is to join a company that is so tiny, they haven't developed any kind of infrastructure. With that small infrastructure comes expensive health insurance and sub-par benefits.

Anyhow, I'm pretty new so I haven't seen the genesis of astellas, but it looks pretty good here to me after working for a true big pharma for years.

+1 all the way - coming from 2 heinous big pharma outfits this place is not perfect but FAR better than other employers in this industry

I agree. Seriously, have any of you ever worked for other pharma companies like Novartis, JnJ, GSK?? I can't believe how much whining is taking place here about the the review process. At least Astellas HAS a calibration process. It could be worse where a manager gets to give a rep anything they feel like giving them without any checks and balances! I hear that our managers are actually fighting pretty hard during those calibrations for fairness for everyone. Like the last post says, astellas is far from perfect, but better than most.

The adults are talking. Run along

A few have tried to ruin the thread.

I agree that Astellas is better than most other companies. We just seem to be turning into that very same place most have come from. All the whining is done to try and curtail the downward spiral. If you have been here for 2 years, you have no idea what I am talking about.

I bet on the relationship I have as a human being with my manager before I allow a SD, competitor managers from other areas, and a fuzzy formula decide my fate.

Exactly! Calibration is a joke. Why should some other manager have anything to do with my review? What on earth is fair about that?

And to other posters point, if you're new or have been here I'd say 3 yrs or less, you probably don't understand what we are upset about. These big pharma mgmt hires killed what was a fun and lucrative place to work. Just b/c it doesn't suck as much as Novartis et al YET, doesn't mean it doesn't suck. In the old job market, 50% of us would've left already.

So true! Fall of 2006 is when things went south! Caliber of managers who were hired was sub-par. One was hired to manage a group of successful individuals recruited to start this new company. Manager lacked skills, leadership abilities, had a small "stint" in management (held the position as mgr (for 9 months or so), at another "start up", but drug never came to market....was able to take that "so called" experience and come here. Was disastrous! Most of the team was escorted out of the company (other members' territories were reassigned. What a track record, huh?

There is really somehing wrong with the Home Office at Astellas! I'm been with 4 diff. companies + Astellas. There is a dark, evil in Deefield - I can't make up my mind if it's somehow a Chicago Pharma mentality vs east coast...or what. It's subjective - but something is very wrong with the culture of this company

When filling out your 2012 employee survey, be sure to state why youdisagree with this process. Perhaps changes will be made of enough people voice their opinions.

Do exactly this an all hell will rain down on us as when reps state that we are unhappy they systematically fire us! Thanks for the sucker offer HR. everything out here is great. Love my job. Unemployment lines are a little to long right now.

Astellas will now not let you forget you had a bad year. I am so sad that we have taken this route. Nothing makes sense to me anymore. I worked so hard last year and have nothing to show for it.

You are selling Vesicare!

For crying out loud, sell something that is needed in the market.

I interviewed for a spot with your company a few years ago, and one of your toolbox managers was trying to convince me that Vesicare was a clincial sell.

I laughed.

I was not offered the job, and I would not have taken the job, because your products are terrible and that manager was an idiot.

That manager made a wise choice in not hiring you. We are glad you are not here.
