T. Melendez

I worked for Tom at Medpointe. The upper management was very reluctant to hire him. However, he threatened to leave the company unless he was made a manager.
Tom has no people skills. Speaks down to his reps. (when you can understand him). Tom lost more than half his district. He was finally fired after he lost too many reps. Tom is very competitive and persistent. Unfortunately, he will stay in the pharma industry. I just feel sorry for the team he inherits next. I have had several managers, Tom is by far the worst ever. He needs a different career path.

How many more meetings are going to be called to waste the reps time in NYC HQ with HR and the RSDs, before the company acknowledge's that he is the cause of every damn issue that goes on in the Tri-State area? They guy can't go a month without creating drama somewhere to cover up his poor job performance and lack of numbers. That way he deflects the blame away from himself and on to other reps. One more thing, stop trying to manipulate your reps with that lame, "...I have a wife and two kids, I can't afford to loose my job..." line that you use every time we get called into HQ because of you. It doesn't take a genius to figure out and you've told us that your pissed at the AE and you're trying to get him fired because he handed in a customer's letter complaining about the fact that you were drunk off your ass and made a pass a his wife at a dinner. One of two times you've done that to a customer's wife. Have some dignity and go get a job somewhere else, they're just biding their time before you're terminated. Once they've cleaned up the top to bottom mess you've created the last 2 years. Clean house then bye bye T.M. You'll probabally be part of a downsizing, that way all the crap you've done can't come back to them legally.

Do you have to treat meetings like this last one as if it was an all out cage match? Do you have to humiliate your reps in front of the other reps? You really must have had a disfunctional and argumentative upbringing as a child, if you think that this is normal behavior. It's a dysfunctional team thanks to you. Thats just the way you want it.

give the guy a break. Front-line managers have the WORST job in any company, especially PAH. The reps have it easy compared to what the managers have to put up with from their RSD's (I would still like someone to explain their roles to me). It sounds to me like he has quite the problem children to manage and that is a no-win situation for any manager. Every manager has reps that like them and those that don't so there will always be discontent and jealousy on the team. just do your jobs and stay out of the drama of others.

You obviously don't work for this maniac, so what do you know? It's the definition of hell on earth. The man has more run ins with HR than any other manager in CAD. When he's not sexually harassing a customer's wife, he's making up crap about his reps to cover up for his own screw ups. Most noteabally against the most decorated and tenured CAD rep in the company and the AE who he's now trying to get fired based on a vendetta from the afore mentioned sexual harassment case against T.M.. Jealous has nothing to do with what is outright unethical behavior on his part. Just ask yourself this, why does he only last less than three years at every company he's managed at? Now we know the answer. And the worst part of it all is that Pfizer CAD and HR do nothing about any of this. His whole district banded together and issued an e mail with 10 things he needed to improve on and that made its way back to HR. Again, they did nothing. His response was to chastise anyone that he felt was vocal in making that list. He conducted his own little witch hunt that he's still doing to this day. He accused some of us of being unprofessional and unethical; ironically thats exactly what he is. One of those 10 requests was to stop making things up and speaking factual inacuracies about everthing and everyone. He's essentially a compulsive liar. Like an earlier post mentioned, like a junkie, he just can't help himself. I heard that firing him would be an admission of guilt and open the flood gates of liability on the company. As usual HR does nothing each time he screws up. I have news for them, if the company keeps turning a blind eye to good old T.M., they're going to get the pants sued off of them for allowing all of this. There's certainly enough proof to go around. We've all worked along side quack reps, is it so hard to believe that there's such a thing as a quack manager? One that never should have been given this level of responsability because he can't help but screw up and act wreckless? That esentially sums him up. We're not jealous, it's just that we've had about enough of our manager selling us down the river to deflect attention away from his screw ups. This job should be about sales and results, not the reaccurent scandle and distraction that he brings upon us. You have no idea what its like to go to a National meeting and have reps and inside personel ask you who your manager is and when you tell them they remark, "Oh yeah, the most dysfunctional team in the company, what the hell is going on over there?" Or better yet, "Oh yeah, I've heard of your manager, I am so sorry." It's all a reflection of the environment he's created. If the economy weren't shot to hell, trust me, most would leave the toxic environment he's created.

Most of us "problmen children", as you refer to us had other managers before the expansion (three different ones to be exact) and there was never an issue then. Just a long track record of success and awards. Only thing that changed was the addition of Melendez. He's in the middle of every incident in our area. He either started it or made it worse. In either case he gets HR or the RSD involved.

T.M. to Rep: "Just Demo the product, I'll approve it. Make the sale.

T.M. to Rep (months later): I'm getting questioned about a large Demo you put through. Why did you do it?

Rep: You Told me to.

T.M: No I didn't!

Rep: Yes you did!

TM.: I did?

Rep: Yes you did!

T.M.: Well, (pause) I don't recall saying that.

T.M.: Alright...well. I'll try to explain it away. But don't let it happen again and don't demo anything else for now.

Rep: Yes but you told me to! I even remember the day you told me to.

T.M.: Alright, well... I don't recall that.

Rep: Am I in trouble?

T.M.: Well we'll see, Odis is against demos to close deals and I've made it clear at meetings and on e mails not to demo product like this.

Rep: BUT YOU TOLD ME TO DO THIS!!!!!! JUST LIKE YOU TOLD ME TO EXPENSE OUT DISPOSABLE CAMERAS AS AN OFFICE EXPENSE TO DOCUMENT CANINE WEIGHT LOSS IN OFFICES FOR SLENTROL.

T.M.: What?! Alright...look, I gotta go. Bye. (click)

Tom is quite simply a control freak, but does not know what to control. He believes himself to be the "super" sales person. First you cannot believe a word he says. His Reps know it and the customers know it, provided you can understand what he says. He lies to benefit himself and will throw anyone under the bus. He has very good sales people he does not trust and they don't trust him, that is the worst possible combination. The problem with TOm is he will do what ever it takes to get the business, as long as what ever is done, ethical or not does not stick to him. He thinks he is smarter than everyone else and the only thing he really is is slimer than everyone else. Customers don't like him or his approach which makes it an impossible situation for his District. Until PAH realizes this, the NYC District is screwed. Until he realizes that you need to manage his people by giving them trust and allowing them to have their own personal style, he cannot win. People by from people, not robots and definetly not from clones of Tom, they actually run far away from those clones. Good Managers support their people, good managers work with positive reinforcement, good managers reward their successful reps, Tom has none of those qualities. Watch your back because he will never have it.

I got him, I told you I'd get the A.E. in the end. That will teach you all not to rat me out when I get drunk and hit on a doctor's wife. Don't screw with me. I'll manipulate you all untill I get what I want and untill perception becomes reality. Just like my idol Terell Owens, I land on my feet every time.

Cheers and Kudos to you all,
T.M.

P.S. The sad thing is this is all true. This is how he thinks. He's a F.U.B.A.R.
