Syncera

In the 1970's when total joints started in the US, every hospital in America tried to do what Syncera is advocating. Rep-less and they had a RN that was a dedicated ortho whatever you want to call it. They handled every total joint and trauma case. The Synthes rep and I used to "treat" this gal (usually a woman) very well along with "building" our relationships with the ortho surgeons. The ortho nurse had the most thankless job. Everyday an ortho doc was yelling out of the OR for her to come to the room because something wasn't right. And this was when the implants and instruments were 10% as complicated as they are now. The turnover on these ortho nurses was epidemic because they all broke down emotionally and the hospitals had no choice in the 1980's but to hand it over to the company reps.

I remember those days well. I treated them "gals" to my special treat numerous times!
Except it isn't 1970 anymore...

So S&N is going to sell a knee to Hospital X for $1800 while it charges Hospital Y, conceivably, right across town $5500 for OX on XLPE?

I can't wait until this backfires! Stryker will come into one of S&N big accounts and do the same thing....sooner or later, all the VERY profitable Hospitals will be paying next to nothing.

Another great S&N idea from those Memphis Morons!

I've got an idea...what if I beat Smith and FU to the punch, and promote the repless model to a hospital, and tell them they could save $1000/joint (x 1000 cases=$1 million), then have them hire me to manage all the inventory, cases, etc., and pay me $200k. I would probably only have to work 3 days a week, not pay for shipping or surgeon dinners or training, and avoid running sets around in the back of my car (not to mention putting on 35000 miles per year). Can two play this game?

Don't think that Stryker won't be doing the same thing, along with Zimmer, Depuy, etc. it's all about margins, and if management can keep their jobs, eliminate the rep, and still turn a profit, this will be the model of the future. Until a wrong implant is implanted...

Heck, get your scrub job back and save them some more money during the case too!

naive to think this doesnt happen with a rep in the room texting and playing jawbreaker all day. what is important to note is HSS, the mecca of joint recon, has gone without reps for some time now and in a stoke of good luck...the building is still standing. pack your bags guys. we are toast.

Then, with a rep in the room, the Hospital is off the hook...Exactly, HSS is "mecca...". As I've said before, most Hospital staff do not have what it takes for this endeavor.

I'd bet the house you are not "in" the OR.

OR credentials... You are a sales rep dbag and nothing more . You are not a doctor and not even a nurse. Just a sales rep. What credentials do you have! Enjoy them while they last as you will be nothing more than an inside sales rep soon enough. Im not the original one you questioned either.

You can remain anonymous, what are your OR credentials?

Not only do I have OR credentials, I have OR credibility. Something that you, my friend sorely lack. You can hang out all day opening boxes, feeling important while trying to keep your competition at bay. Those days are coming to an end. Look around you. Even your company is selling you out. they realize that you provide nothing to the process. Syncera is just one step. Better start proving you're more than a box opener and babysitter!

As an Ortho rep myself, I think it's funny that most reps think nobody is smart enough to do their job but them. Syncera is the beginning of a new era that many people have predicted. It will be a bumpy road at first, and there will be a learning curve, just like there was for every rep when he was learning the job. The goal is about lowering cost, to achieve that the hospital staff will be asked to do more. Will patient care suffer? Yes, if the rep is out of picture that's one less person to ensure that things go smoothly. However, a) the primary goal is cost savings, b) the hospital staff will figure it out, they're not all morons.
