Wow! Lets see, I got at least 5 recruiter calls this week from Oncology jobs in my territory!! Anyone else, Seattle Genetics, Celgene, Pfizer, Amgen, and a lab company with a base of 150K!! Recruiter said that our salesforce was ranked the highest in "reach" to physicians and they want Novartis Oncology reps!! Novartis better step up the base salaries and get us in line before all the good ones are gone and all the crusty old folks that are hangin' on retire!! Anyone else getting all these calls!! Damn, which one to choose?

Celgene, Pfizer, Amgen, same issues with a different name.

Find some place out of pharma who isn't caught up in this overtime nonsense. I'm telling you, that stupidity will be the final death knell to any effort to make the sales rep job viable and of any value.

may be the same....but the extra $25K per yr and fewer policies and regulations and lawsuit limiting opportunity imposed by Novartis is certainly worth it.

I heard cuts in June and I am interviewing with 3 of them to be on the safe side!!! 25K and I am out!! Cuts everywhere in the industry and its nice to see growth and the respect Novartis Oncology reps are finally getting, too bad its outside of Novartis, its survival of the fittest now!! Companies are all the same with the same regulations!! Time to get paid, we are sales people right?

Hate to burst your bubble junior, but NO, you're not "sales people"! What color is the sky in your world?

I hate old people in Oncology, they still say things like the previous post "Junior". Who sais that? Anyway, when I go to the meetings it looks like "Gods waiting room". They wont retire and they have nowhere to go and nobody wants them. Can someone please suggest a buyout so we are not so embarrassed by their looks and negative attitude for the industry. My partner is like 90, complains everyday, and dresses like the 70's! Help us get rid of the old folks please!!!

Then why is it so many of them are the ones constantly winning awards??

then again, is this area of pharma going down the drain due to the mass market mentality invasion that has occured at Novartis....after all it's rare to see another oncology companies' rep come here, but ours leave at about 10% or more per year......

Yeah, I am sure your old self brings in the numbers and works harder than everyone else. Its due to volume and goals and thats it! The only reason old people win every year is because there are so many of you how could they not? People win President's Club and International Club every year. Look at Puerto Rico, Zometa goal of 40 vials? Of course they are going to win, increase by 10 vials and you are going to Switzerland, I have to increase by 400 to go, thats fair!! The rep last year won on Afinitor for carcinoid off label at MD Anderson who he never even met? Come On!! You really thing old people have something to do with this? Its numbers and goals, not retire already and stop thinking you are doing anything but complaining and looking old!!

Is working hard the same as working smart?....long term, figuring out access and relationships will help you survive the pharma game.....that's the real benefit of "experience".

The previous poster needs to review his D & I workbook.

I'm in Onc Lab, and promise you that the recruiter is blowing something up your *** if they say a Lab is starting at 150k base.

The base PLUS target bonus will start there, and yes, good reps are indeed making $250k, but you won't be making any kind of money until nearly a year's worth of hard, hard work, after the insurance companies start paying the bills.

Yes, I agree. Im a 45 year old pharma rep that stumbled onto your page because so many were viewing (33) I wanted to see whats up. This person sounds like a few of the young punks I work around in my POD. Notice I said "around" because they are not working. My offices hardly know any of them. One guy showed up to our last two day POA (Thursday/Friday) with a fresh sun burn in January. Said he was working in his yard all weekend, we all laughed. His roomate found the cancun bag tag with an arrival date of the day before our meeting. He never put in for vacation, entered call notes for the week too. Entitlement mentality out there with these younger folks - never ceases to amaze me.

Get off the oncology board, we don't have roommates like the mass market. If I was 45 and still in mass market, I would have to shoot myself!! Nice progression junior, I mean dad, I am sure your kids are proud? Hi kids, I am 45 and sell pills out of my trunk and have roommates? Really? Now get off our boards, and let the real oncology reps shine through!

Moron, the only shine you have is on the seat of your pants from sitting in your company car driving from lunch to lunch

It might be time for Novartis to do what Genetech did last year, they raised everyone's salary to the industry average based on the job and have less than 5% turnover as a result. If Novartis doesn't start paying 125-140K base salaries like Celgene and Genentech, this place will continue to be a great training ground for those companies. All the younger motivated sales reps will move on and make the money, and Novartis will be stuck with all the old people who can't leave. Take a look at our Sales Meetings. Other companies are picking off our good reps one by one. It costs more to replace a rep than bring us up so we don't have to leave? Heard we lost a good Onc 3 or 4 today in Birmingham, it was for the money, but they will spin it!! More to come, I know about 10 or so interviewing here in the East region and also Central. Our training class as Celgene, Genentec, and Seattle Genetics will be just like Novartis since we will all be there. Time to make money and get those sales!!

Your idea of what base salaries are is WAY off. Genentech has long underpaid because you should be happy to be there, because they are the almighty Genentech. Celgene is clueless and had one tiny product do well with no competition at all and they have no idea how to market or sell and are still in the dark ages. You are also clueless about older reps as they are the only ones with any credibility at all. Besides, face it, your hourly wage shenanigans will be the end of all of you.
