Completed in virtual interview on the computer. The questions were not difficult but very awkward talking to the computer. If this is the new way companies plan to screen applicants, I'm in trouble.
What happened to phone IVs?
I work for Genentech and I can tell you they already know who they want in these positions. Our company is real good at making it appear as though you have a chance. There are things like preferred candidates, succession plans, etc that will prohibit you from getting hired here. BTW, we have two franchises that are shutting down here too and the reps from these franchises are told they get first dibs on these jobs. I hope that you can handle the truth.
What? Shut down franchise reps will get first dibs? Why haven't they done this in the past? They let go 200 reps and managers when Boniva went off patent and they didn't give them preferred status for open positions. Most of the managers sucked, but they had many good reps.

Because Boniva was primary care and the two franchises shutting down are specialty (and around 100 reps total as of now). Being one of them and one going for the Skin position, I can tell you that it will be a tough one to get at least in my area with internal competition. The web based screens (given to outside candidates) take the work load off of the hiring manager and make it look like they're interested in you. A prior poster was correct, they pretty well have their ideal candidates identified and lined up, just going through the typical process of making everyone interviewing think they have a chance.
What franchises are shutting down? I knew growth hormone was but what is the other franchise?

You don't know what you're talking about if you think those reps laid off with the end of Boniva weren't capable of selling in a specialty market. That's where they originally came from. Many had more years and experience selling in the hospital and specialty settings than the runny-nosed newbies considered "ideal candidate specialists" that are now being considered for the job. Just another case of upper management disconnect with knowledge of the personnel they have.
This franchise will be filled with inexperienced HCV and Nutropin reps that have no idea what they are doing in oncology. With competition in melanoma they will be eaten alive and probably will be looking for new jobs within the next few years. RSD has moved her way up by running all over people and having her favorite boys from Roche…...

No idea what they're doing in oncology? Just like the current oncology reps don't know what they are doing, because the dirty little secret is they really don't see oncologists, because oncologists don't see reps.
And the politics of specialty vs. primary care at Genentech was that Genentech wanted to get rid of any trace of Roche. Sure they hired a few women here and there at the direction of female RDs, but that was about it. Male Roche reps didn't have a chance.

Did anyone get an offer yet?
