I do know the other side to this story so let me tell you something...it would be off-label to treat Jack and that is why insurance companies are not willing to cover it...the doctor wants to try our medication on Jack but it is against FDA to give our medication away at no cost to an off-label promotion

Think about it...Shire would be the kind of company to help this child you idiot...they would do antyhign in their power to help him by unfortunatley it is the lawyers that prevent us and not Shire.
 












Seems pretty clear cut to me. Terrible story and I really do feel of Jack and his family. However, do you think Jacks dad realized he was asking Shire to break the law?? Again terrible story but why wasn't this video directed towards the FDA.

Would anyone in their right mind steal a prescription from CVS with a cop behind them just because the person in front of them said its alright.

Come back to reality Jack's dad your dispute should be with the FDA not Shire. If this family wanted a resolution this video would have addressed the FDA, unfortunately I think daddy is trying to politicize his son for $$$$$. Look between the lines and Jack's dad is somewhat disgusting.

You are so full of it. since when there is a law prohibiting companies to provide investigational treatment considering it's approved by the IRB and under an IND? it's pretty clear by the video that the first criteria would be met and considering Shire is already developing the formulation and testing an IND is in place. don't comment about things you don't know.
even if the development was not in place the FDA would have the authority to grant and emergency IND but they need Shire ok to that (and yes, Shire did that in the past!).

it's a decision about financial risk and nothing else, I'm nobody to judge it but they should come straight and say it.

I read that he didn't qualify for the study. If you think Shire can just give out investigational drugs like candy then you're delusional. Who has Shires back when some lawyer sues them? What happens if this one patient throws it off for everyone else? There are many things to consider. Sad deal all around!

Agreed. It breaks my heart that this little boy is going to die but we have a drug that may be able to save him. I have 2 kids under the age if 8 so I can only imagine the pain his parents must be going thru...wished there was something we could do

"As a group, we feel it's important to save the life of a child. Give that child the med. You don't we walk."

Who could disagree? Let me guess, it's okay for the CEO to cover his ass but what about you, the employee? How do you sleep at night knowing that YOU said nothing about this atrocity? You are all as guilty as he is.

Although I'm sad for Jack and this unfortunate situation I sleep great at night knowing that I and Shire help patients every single day. You're delusional if you think we are going to go in as a sales force and threaten to walk out if he doesn't give him the med. We all have families of our own to support and guess what? - there are many people in line that would love to have our jobs. As much as I hate Jacks situation I understand the rationale from Shire's standpoint. Also, you getting on here and degrading our moral character doesn't make me want to fight for you.
