Rough Times Ahead You Have Been Warned

There haven't been any new opportunities in 2013 nothing is cool. I agree Ethicon is too strong to fail and I dont think that will ever happen, but it is a hire out of college job now and that's how it's going to be. Just sad overall.

'too strong to fail" is an overused phrase around Ethicon. Will Ethicon be around 10 years from now? Sure it will... probably 50-75% smaller and just as irrelevant in the surgical world as AOL is on the web.

27 + years wiped away one recent Monday Morning in 2014. Maybe due sitting at my desk working quietly, working on vacation, late at night to ensure completion, being dependable, and just a low hanging fruit as the term would be these days...

I have watched this company divide and conquer as well as wait patiently and in the past 5 years act first think later. The warning that started this thread is not without validity. I too was shakled by the golden handcuffs but appreciate my years of service as well as the dignity provided by J&J to see me through this transition.

This post is obviously from a 27 year employee of Ethicon... A whole bunch of talk but nothing really said.

Told you rough times were ahead, you were warned. Wait until the end of 2014.

If you believe ESC will have no displacements....then ignore this thread. I will remind you of a talk from a VP not to long ago where he quoted "Energy is the place to be".

Look where energy is going to be just a short time after that speech. Did you enjoy the scripted conference calls today?

Or how about last year when the same leadership told everyone "...there will be no reduction of head count with the new ESC model...." Was that true?

You have been warned.

Always have a backup plan !

I can't wait for Kipper to tell me again that "Energy is the place to be" or "It's flat out cool" or whatever buzz words a marketing group tells him to say to the sales force.

Listening to MG gush about the Kipper during the Wednesday evening call was disgusting. The guy bailed on energy in 2012 and MG gives the guy a hero's welcome about how we should be thankful that Kipper will look out for us.

The hand jobs that leadership was giving each other during these calls was disgusting. Reps are going to lose their jobs because of the decisions by the leaders in charge but the leaders are still busy patting each other on the backs for a great job.

Hey Kipper, how's the Sterilmed acquistion that you pushed helping energy so far? Kip? Kip?

I agree, more displacements by end of year 14. What areas do you think will get cut next? I actually think the model is the right thing to do as healthcare is going this route: less reps in OR, less need in OR, more "one company utilization", all due to cost pressure. It sucks, though, that people have to lose their jobs. Energy reps are going first, but who follows? Bio? GYN? HBT?

Once the energy reps are cut that will be the end of rep cuts. Might see some role changes in 2015..energy reps that are left will likely be put into one of the existing 3 rep types with smaller territories

Keep telling yourself that. Contract managers will drive business-clinical product specialists will support trials and in-services. No sales in the OR is what the government wants. We are all working on borrowed time

I have a way out once my "jump to conclusions mat" hits the market

This is the only meaningful comment posted here. It doesn't matter what ESC does right now or who gets merged. There will be no device reps within three years. Everything will be contract controlled. At most companies will be able to have clinical specialists (meaning clinically trained people, RN, techs, etc.) do in-services. Read the ACA.
