Rigel-

Dave Santos is not a leader….every role he has had he left the place worse vs when he took over. I interviewed for a role and almost hung up on him - zero emotional intelligence. ZERO leadership. Talk to anyone that’s been where he was a leader and the common theme is the same: Doesn’t know the business, low trust…and quickly gets exposed and leaves.

I worked directly for D at Genentech. He was a joke, no one liked or respected him, nor could stand working for or with him. He was an absolute diversity hire with zero interpersonal or business skills, everyone knew it and said as much, but there was nothing anyone could do. He was the DM who moved to wherever the company told him to move, never staying in any one job long enough to evaluate how bad he was...he was the master of jumping every 18 months. What's fascinating is he still fools some people some of the time..albeit at a low level, low talent company like Rigel...which kinda makes sense. Watch D at ASCO...no one talks to him. He is almost always alone, no ex-collegues are meeting up with him for dinner or drinks. He just gloms onto whatever newbie he can, and tells them how he will get them where they want to get to in there career. Don't believe me? Ask anyone who worked at DNA doing his time there.

Dear Managers:

Raising productivity is not about monitoring people. It's about motivating them.

94 studies: Surveillance fails to improve performance - and increases stress, distrust, and dissatisfaction.

Tracking people is not a substitute for respecting and valuing them.

Worked with Dave at Genentech on several projects. He taught me a valuable lesson when I showed up unprepared for a 1:1 meeting and I was making some substantiated assumptions. He raked me over the coals and I’ve never done that again.

Dave is ok. He does have expectations and holds people accountable to them. Some don’t like that, but I never saw him play favorites.

Give him a chance.
Still standing by this insanely stupid post? He had his chance...how's that playing out in your opinion?

Perhaps he should have had expectations for himself and held himself accountable before asking the same of others. Titles and authority is all D ever had. No one saw him as a leader or remotely knowledgeable. He "led" through intimidation and threats...like most insecure, talentless leaders do. This is playing out exactly as many of us said it would.

Just your comment that 'he raked you over the coals' screams of poor leadership. Makes me wonder if you ever had a good, let alone a great leader to work with/for? If you think 'raking someone over the coals' is good leadership my guess is you have not.

I feel sorry for you.
