Region cutouts/districts

Everyone do the math. If the company keeps between 850-950 reps and there are 48 continental states how can this be true? Think!

Hey dummy, you do the math, how long have you've been with this company. When Sandoz & Geigy, those were the number of reps we had with the same number of states. Get it?

Thought that he was gone but actually heard tonight that he has a sweet new role created just for him in Oncology....only appropriate that "CANCER" would go to Oncology. Look out!

Before Sandoz, then Novartis, I was with a small company that had 150 reps nationwide. We worked our territories on 4 to 6 week rotations. In addition we also called on wholesalers, drug chain buyers, retail pharmacies, hospitals and our private practice doctors. We had more products to promote than Novartis does now. We did just fine with our 150 reps; rather than recording fiction, we always had things to do and we were happy doing it.

If indeed, given the current state of the product portfolio, 850 reps is still way too many. Unless more products are added to the mix, expect additional cuts within a year.

10 years... Please explain to me how this could happen. 950 reps and only 1 or 2 per state? I cant wait to hear you explain this one. Go ahead stud!

You are stupid. I was here then and if you have in fact been with the company pre-merger you would know this isnt true. Dummy....get it!

This was in the lat 80's and true. We covered all aspects of territory. It was actually fun because you got to diversify your skills to a broad set of customers and were busy as heck.

You will find that you like it. You actually feel valuable and can make a difference.

Downsized last time, came back to snoop after old friends stated that you are going through it again. I worked in the Ciba division and another company previous to that. We had 2 reps in most states. We did call on docs, hospitals, pharmacies, wholesalers, nursing homes, and in some instances health care supply agencies. We were on an 8 week rotation, evaluated purely on sales and had a ball!! We worked hard but were valued for our contribution. Bonus structure was fabulous--one year made as much in bonus as I did in salary. The formation of Novartis began the spiral into what has become the industry today. I own my own business, make good money, employ 12. I would certainlly look outside this industry--it is dying.
