You make the assumption that the promotion process used years ago was based on who were the best candidates.

Maybe white men had a thumb on the scale in their favor for the last century or more. That creates a huge competitive advantage for white men that is hard to overcome and a culture of leaving talent go untapped and undeveloped in a world where the war for talent is fiercer than ever.

Talent is now in short supply when it was once viewed as being so abundant that companies, education institutions and governments felt they could block, stifle, discriminate, dismiss and deny women, black, Hispanics and others for generations. Now, talent is too rare and precious to handle so recklessly and ignorantly.

Just as it is wrong to not hire someone because they have a dark skin color or are female, it is equally wrong to not hire someone because they are white and male. Yet that is exactly what Pfizer has been doing in my opinion and now will do with quota mandates. Sick and immoral.
