Poor kids need to organize

My assertions are that certain foul-mouthed name calling hate-mongers make BIGOTED comments about the president. I did not say racist.

As you know, one of the definitions of "racist" is "bigoted" and one of the definitions of "bigoted" is "racist".

Do you really want to go down this road?

No wonder you are on Modmo

Gasp! Say it ain't so! The poor little darlings are forced to :::ugh::: have a summer job that pays $7.25 and...and (I hope I can say this without crying....:::shudder::: ) lift boxes!

I don't know what this world is coming to. Our babies actually having to work during work hours. This is obviously torture.

You're right. This sounds like a job for: ...Look! Up in the air! It's a bird, it's a plane, it's it's.........President Super-ignoranus!

There is only one possible solution to this horrible situation. We must immediately go on strike in OWS, demand a living wage of $150,000/hour and a fifteen-minute work week!

No, the CEO's already have a monopoly on that market, and they won't let it go without kicking and screaming--

Hershey Corp. needs to look into this as a serious concern & be transparent with the findings & resolution. I do wonder why a federal program like this 'vacation diplomacy' program continues to exist though.. when we have kids the same age in the U.S. looking for summer jobs & not finding them. Given our economy...a suspension of this program by Obama would be appropriate for the future...100,000 jobs is 100,000 jobs. 'Spreading the good word of America' should be put on hold for a bit...

I understand how your socialist sensibilities might be offended, and I hate to muddy them up once again by facts, but you should have asked yourself why Hershey Corp might do something like this.

The population of Hershey, PA is only 12,000. The population of the town doubles during weekdays. I therefore think it is reasonabe to assume that there just aren't enough people available locally to take seasonable jobs. Some HR people came up with a very clever and perfectly legal way to find the temporary workers they needed.

Maybe we should be sending our kids to China where they can work 20 hour days for 11¢/hour.

Your replies often make no sense whatsoever.

Did you even read the article cited? This is a federal program & Hershey Corp participates. Hershey's HR dept doesn't make the rules. These summer jobs pay minimum wage & are part of the federal 'vacation diplomacy' program ..there's 100,000 similar jobs across the country.

Hershey Corp probably provides resident housing at a cheap rate for these foreign participants which stands to reason that any college kid from around the US could apply & live & work in Hershey for the summer..not just residents of Hershey PA.

Therefore.. I'll say it again.. given our economy...a suspension of this program by Obama would be appropriate for the future...100,000 jobs is 100,000 jobs. These jobs should be going to US college kids imo... minimum wage is better than sitting on your ass all summer.

And you didn't catch MY point. The population of Hershey is too small to meet the demand for summer labor locally. The reason the program exists is that HERSHEY COULD NOT GET labor locally. Maybe you're right in that they should have hired American college students first. On the other hand, perhaps they tried and couldn't get enough applicants. Or maybe it's just another colossal Democratic fuck up.

Amazing! I wonder if you dream about this shit at night.

Newsflash: the world has a lot bigger problems than the 'Democrats'...

Umm no. It's federal program. Read the cited article before you spout off.

Jesus! I know it's a Federal progam! So what? Federal schmederal, the program exists and it's a government program. Normally I would agree that Obama should get rid of the program, but in the case of summer jobs, the problem is different. This is a summer job program for children!

Have you ever been in Hershey, PA? I spend a lot of time fishing around there. It's not exactly the most exciting place to be for kids in the summertime. They can take a week's wages and go out for a nice candlelight dinner. They do have a new movie theater there.

Of course they can always go drinking with the local Amish kids, or have a rip-snorting day of shopping in Harrisburg. How about an inspiring trip to Antietem or Gettysburg?

The program was most likely started because:

1. Small light-industrial communities have difficulty filling menial labor summer jobs with people willing to work.
or
2. The American State Department might have started the program because they knew American children are lazy and refuse to work for minimum wage, whereas Europeans are much more practical.

In my area of the country (Pacific Northwest) most of the menial labor jobs are filled with immigrant labor. Farmers complain constantly that they have considerable difficulty finding even summer workers who can speak english. American kids don't want the jobs, even though they pay $10.00/hour.

We're done.

So you refine and pick out 1 of 21 possible synonyms as the definition? Synonyms are different words with almost identical or similar meanings. They are not necessarily identical - it depends on the context. Are you saying that all 21 synonyms listed are the same? Back to bed grampa pickles.

Agree here, why does the US keep feeding the world when we can't even feed our own?? This should be suspended and it is a terrible waste of tax payers money. I am sure Hershey can find plenty of US citizens to hire.
