PIP Question

With all of the past employment lawsuits, a PIP is just a paper blanket that mgrs at Novartis are now forced to use to prior to firing you. So, if you are on a PIP then you will get your wish 60-90 days from now.

It sounds like STD is an option to buy yourself 6 months but in the next few months or later, you are gone.

Like most, you hate in here anyway so look at it as an opportunity for a change.

Don't look at it as a failure though. There have been many good people here before you in Novartis who were in the same situation. It sounds like you are not in Pharma, which is the highest paying and will probably lasts the longest in its current form. But eventually, all healthcare sales are going to go away for all intents and purposes.

Will the last one to leave the Pharma Sales Party please turn out the lights?

Above posters who offer advice that is illegal (claim STD) are ridiculous. You CAN overcome a PIP you CAN keep your job if you do everything the plan requires. If your goals are in fact in unachievable - get an attorney and have them review the terms of your PIP. You have more ammunition if you work your plan and do everything to meet the objectives versus throwing your hands up and going out on disability. My counterpart was placed on a PIP and was taken off after 30 days and is now one of the most recognized (good guys) in his division. He worked an honest day and not an hour over, but he also did his job. That's what you're paid to do a job not sit at home and take an entitlement check for STD when you don't really need it.

And I know many reps placed on PIPs over the years who have followed the directions perfectly, have reviewed advances with their managers, and at the end have had the goals changed, product to improve changed, etc. It is a crap shoot at best. If I were placed on a PIP I would immediately begin looking for something else. On the other hand, if you stick it out Novartis will throw you a bone. I have also seen managers place one rep on a PIP while another one with the same data not being placed on a plan. It continues to be at the whim of management.

The PIP was popularized by GE whose HR process has a stated goal of removing the bottom 10% of performers each year. Trust me, if you go an a PIP there you are as good as gone.

Sure, there are people in Novartis who have survived being placed on a PIP but that is obviously an exception. Got some questions for you? How much of an addition effort does it take to exit someone after you have went through the effort to place them on a PIP and then gone through all the effort to "manage" them through it? If they go through it and "improve" they have just proven that "they have no where else to go". If the manager exits you at the end they have just gotten rid of someone who was in a position to be placed on a PIP, went through it and then carries all the baggage of that process. If they then don't choose to leave at some point they have proven themselves worthless.

You are a naive moron if you think that the PIP is a positive tool for the company or the individual.

I am pretty sure that if your wife is "screwing the milkman" or your husband is "in the panties of an IHOP waitress" you have problems with your marriage.

You are a bonafide r***** . There is nothing illegal if a PIP causing you mental stress & you need STD via an approved doctors diagnosis , in fact the ex CEO of Novartis , Vasella, was on LTD in a mental institution for his mental stress/nervous breakdown though he would know illegal activities . A PIP is an arbitrary meaningless ploy to cut down on staff without layoffs & the costs involved with a normal downsizing. Upper level Mgmnt are dictated as to what their 'budgets' will be & often times this results in trimming people.
You would have to be an IDIOT not to go see a doctor to treat the stress this "healthcare" company causes you.
As for overcoming a PIP , Add clown to r***** , so there you have it , you are a retarded ( HR drone) ass clown .

I agree that the only kind of person that would even pretend that there is a possibility of a positive outcome for an employee is either a Novartis HR or BPO type and it is PROVEN that neither one of those depts are looking out for you!

It does sort of defy the imagination that you'd work your way through a PIP and then become some kind of award winner the next year, wouldn't it? Yet I've seen it done - when there was an attorney in the background. ;-)

it does defy something but it isn't "the imagination", it fails "credulity". Isn't it funny that none of "us" have?

So sure, "I have a friend who saw Big Foot on a camping last summer".

Anyway, even if it was true, who would want to be the subservient, beat-down, whipped puppy who had to go thru that sort of thing to keep his or her job at a piece of shit place like this, huh?

And the corollary is that, if you are "sales person" who needs a PIP from the caliber of sales manager at a place like this this to be a better sales person, you should find another career.

So yes, I am sure there is "someone" who needed a job so badly that they would go thru a PIP to emerge at the other side as an "award winner".

ass kissing fuckwad

Here is what you should do...

Go see your primary care doctor and tell him/her that you are extremely stressed out about work and can't sleep and it is making you feel very worried and anxious (anxiety).

He/she will either place you on a disability leave or refer you to a psychiatrist - if that happens, you are golden. The psych will place you on disability immediately and you will receive 100% pay plus any additional incentives/commissions that are owed to you.

With the HIPPA Laws, no one will ever no anything about what you are doing - Nor is it anyone's business - And truth be told, you probably do need a break and some health help.

The most important thing about this entire thing is to tell NO ONE what you are doing - Friends, co-workers, Managers have a brutal way of stabbing you in the back.

Use this time off productively, update your resume, get some interviews (you still can claim that you are a rep at Novartis), get a new career (get the hell out of pharma) and get on with the rest of your life.

The bottom line is this---> If you are on a PIP, your life will be hell for 60 - 90 days and then you are done. Novartis will not give 2 shits about you at all...You are done.

Some people might follow up this cafpharma post that this is unethical...fuck them and fuck Novartis...Worry about yourself, your family and most importantly your health.

Good luck friend!

Best advice on this whole thread...Tell no one!

Great advise and so true. Its easier now to do what the above post said and don't worry about Novartis because they could care less about you.

We get paid pennies on the dollar compared to what Big Pharma makes on us. The increasing and unreasonable challenges (From both the selling AND Big Pharma corporate environment) does not bode well for anyone interested in a long career in pharmaceutical sales.

Should you decide to do right for yourself and family (Which means the Company pays you to regain your mental health) then DO NOT tell anyone outside of your husband what is going on. As a matter of fact, do not let HR or the Occupational Health Nurse know anything other than you are under a doctors care. The Occupational Health Nurse (Insurance Co.) will want to know specifics and you are under no obligation to give her any information other than "I am not qualified to correctly or adequately describe my medical condition and you would need to contact my physician for more information.”. The Psych treating you will take few notes, and will only release a minimum of information to protect himself and you ...the patient.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery and moving on with your life!

I work for a Novartis company and was put on a PIP last week for numbers...I was already planning on leaving bc we are moving due to my husband's job in a few months...But haven't let Novartis know. I'm trying to decide if I want to really work extra hard and do all of the grunt work they want me to do to MAYBE beat the PIP when I am so tired of this b/s and just don't care anymore. I'm just worn out, and would rather be at home with my small son instaed of doing this and feeling like I'm always barely holding it together and faking enthusiasm (It's so hard when I feel no motivation anymore- life has been sucked out of me)...But I have a few questions:

If I get let go, is there any severance (been with co over 4 years)?
If I get let go, can I file for unemployment?
If I get let go, will I receive my bonus for Q1 or Q2? Pip is basically thru Q2

I really wish they would have just cut me and given me a severance.

Thanks in advance:)
All the dipshits who made kickers were the ones who fudged every "drive by" call!!....Come on people, get on board!! The way to survive in this company is to give them "pink elephants."
The managers want to see 100% call attainment on top tier 1 Docs.....you know good and well you can't see them!! You better put the calls in.....or NO bonus for YOU!!! The bad thing about this, your manger, ASM, and HIS boss all did this as Reps....that's why they are in the position they are IN!!!!

And why are our products so expensive? Hmmmm.

For those who agree with the disability advice: I hope to god that one day, your child, spouse, or parents needs a medicine that costs a fortune and you question why it is so darn expensive. I also hope to god that you or a family member starts a business, and one of your employees does this to you. Have a nice day! : )

Boo-hoo.... spoken like someone who has never carried a bag for evil pharma and is completely oblivious to the fact that capitalism and lawyers is what drives the cost of US healthcare so high.
