PIP Question

I work for a Novartis company and was put on a PIP last week for numbers...I was already planning on leaving bc we are moving due to my husband's job in a few months...But haven't let Novartis know. I'm trying to decide if I want to really work extra hard and do all of the grunt work they want me to do to MAYBE beat the PIP when I am so tired of this b/s and just don't care anymore. I'm just worn out, and would rather be at home with my small son instaed of doing this and feeling like I'm always barely holding it together and faking enthusiasm (It's so hard when I feel no motivation anymore- life has been sucked out of me)...But I have a few questions:

If I get let go, is there any severance (been with co over 4 years)?
If I get let go, can I file for unemployment?
If I get let go, will I receive my bonus for Q1 or Q2? Pip is basically thru Q2

I really wish they would have just cut me and given me a severance.

Thanks in advance:)

Whatever you do, DON'T quit! There is also no reason to work hard to fight the PIP because you are leaving anyway. Do enough work to make it look like you are fighting to stay but you will make out much better being let go. They won't fight your unemployment claim and they will give you severance in exchange for you signing a document that says you won't sue them for wrongful termination. You should get 1 week for every year with the company. If you are still on the payroll when Q1 is paid out you will get it but you won't be around for Q2.

What? After the layoffs I thought Novartis was a "new" place to work. I remember at our meetings that PIPS were not going to be an issue and the "softer" side of Novartis is to work to retain its talent instead of throwing them out in the street. A year after the layoffs and it is the same b/s company that it has and will always be. The sad thing is if your managed care plans don't support the portfolio...hmmm....two generic drugs that make up a branded drug? Oh and that dementia drug will cost the caregiver a fortune because it is also tier 3, you are fighting an battle that can't be won. Take the PIP, work a little and wait to get canned. At least you can get unemployment and move on with dignity.

Here is what you should do...

Go see your primary care doctor and tell him/her that you are extremely stressed out about work and can't sleep and it is making you feel very worried and anxious (anxiety).

He/she will either place you on a disability leave or refer you to a psychiatrist - if that happens, you are golden. The psych will place you on disability immediately and you will receive 100% pay plus any additional incentives/commissions that are owed to you.

With the HIPPA Laws, no one will ever no anything about what you are doing - Nor is it anyone's business - And truth be told, you probably do need a break and some health help.

The most important thing about this entire thing is to tell NO ONE what you are doing - Friends, co-workers, Managers have a brutal way of stabbing you in the back.

Use this time off productively, update your resume, get some interviews (you still can claim that you are a rep at Novartis), get a new career (get the hell out of pharma) and get on with the rest of your life.

The bottom line is this---> If you are on a PIP, your life will be hell for 60 - 90 days and then you are done. Novartis will not give 2 shits about you at all...You are done.

Some people might follow up this cafpharma post that this is unethical...fuck them and fuck Novartis...Worry about yourself, your family and most importantly your health.

Good luck friend!

STAY, STAY, STAY! Make them fire you--depending on the company you work for within Novartis you could be being pushes out because you have a young child.

I definitely think I'm being Mommy Tracked to a certain degree. I came back from maternity leave end of Jan and then got hit with this...

Does anyone know if they divulge that I was terminated if potential employers call them to verify employment?

A PIP certainly may actually cause enough mental stress to place you on disability & you have 6 months full pay w/bonus & bennies to recover & look for a less stressful job .
Disability is provided for a reason , there is no shame to utilize the benefits if you become disable mentally or physically. Look at Vasella he was in a mental institution with full pay until he was able to "recover"
o_O

Advice is true about seeing your PCP today. Dont wait. Being on a PIP WILL make you go crazy so this is not a sham!! Why would you let them torture you and subsequently your family? No one beats a pip no matter if you surpass your sales numbers. In the end manager will still make up some bogus criteria or flat out lie and fire you anyway.

what was wrong with Vasella?

So If you just got back from maternity leave I would go see a lawyer ASAP. This exact thing went on in the past and contributed to Novartis loosing the Female discrimination lawsuit.

Many people do not realize that companies can in fact disclose that you were terminated, but, tend not to for fear a former employee may have kept some item that could lead to unrelated lawsuits. You can google this under employment laws.

After you seek a lawyers advice you will know whether to go out on a leave of absence.

Get an attorney. It's hard to leave if you have a "bundle" tied up in pension/401 <-I did. The PIP raises so many questions when legal gets involved. I don't know about pulling dishonest jobs like disability etc. However - if you're stressed - it's real.

I do know this company can not stand on numbers as a reason to let somebody go. There are too many irregularities with IMS collection and reporting.

A Hem Rep that was on the bottom of the barrel - lives in a largely rural area of the United States just became our newest 1% top sales. Imagine that.

(above poster here) I still work Hem (10 years) - but I know they've worked Reps over. I know some have taken paid sick leave - but they used it to find another job. Get an attorney - protect yourself, and fight the numbers - they have a way of changing...

WEll I survived a Coaching Plan and had know idea that was almost not possible! I did start going to the doc and creating a paper trail. I would recommend that for sure. There is lots of good advice in the other posts. Just remember.... they don't give a rats a.... about us. Do what is best for you, get an attorney go after Novartis.... the powers that be are a bunch of scum sucking a holes!

Our entire district was on a coaching plan several years ago. Many of the reps went on to other jobs, but only one did not survive the coaching plan. A PIP can be another deal--make it almost impossible to survive with moving targets and mixed messages. Good luck
