Outside interview feedback

Genentech reputation is not great right now. I left 2 years ago and I got the feedback then. And it’s only gotten worse.
Unfortunately I think it’s true. The company hasn’t done anything innovative or new, at least on the commercial side, for many years. People see Genentech like an IBM - a has been.
If you’re considering leaving in next 2-5 years, now is a good time. If you’re a lifer, then it doesn’t matter.

You sound too good to be true. I don’t buy your phoniness for a second. Once, you land somewhere else. Lazy and entitlement follows with Gene employees.
It’s amazing how stupidly negative people can be on this thread and in this company. Hey Moron, as if this person posted this to prove something true for you, or anyone else refusing to believe it’s true, or to prove their authenticity. HEADLINE: im pretty sure is was about asking how to be prepared to professionally respond to negative comments about our company—which are absolutely happening. Looks like you totally missed the point. If you believe these comments are not being made, or that this person was authentic (I doubt they care) then your head is either in the clouds or up someone’s butt. Cheers mate.

I always find these types of threads amusing. You have one disgruntled former employee having a conversation with themself. Multiple posting back and forth as to give their initial post a modicum of credibility. Take your act elsewhere. We ain’t buying what your trying to sell. As another poster mentioned, “sorry you couldn’t make it here”.

Well this post is consistent with what I've heard from people who left Genentech and interviewed elsewhere and what hiring managers at Genentech are hearing from recruiters and other's in the industry. So sad to see a once great company go this way.

Yes - everyone knows. Why would so many people leave a supposedly great company - obviously there was a problem.

If you still work there and don't know this, you are as out of touch as all the "leaders" that work there. They are as clueless as the people running this country.

All these impressive degrees and yet not impressed with the lack of talent here. Complacent people who have high salaries, equity and shuffle the papers.
Cannot rest on the R&D anymore. Lots of people who would like to leave but can’t get hired because the industry knows we are an absolute train wreck waiting for next big blockbuster Herceptin to save us!

The most lousiest and worthless my untalented people I met were from Genentech.

If they spoke in coherent sentences, it’s very possible you just didn’t understand them based on your stellar writing skills.

This site spellcheck ruins a lot of my thoughts while I type in real time. You must be a dope to think about what to type. I’m sure you ejaculate in under a minute. Moron.

And you wonder why you weren’t offered the position? Have you considered Enterprise Rental Cars? They have a great Manager trainee program I’m sure you would benefit from

Hey we embrace Diversity and Inclusion as our main goal. It doesn’t matter what you know, it matters what tint you are and which gender you sleep with. We don’t judge people based on integrity and character, but rather the demographic they belong too. This is what makes this Company pathetic.

I had an interview with two companies in the last two weeks. One was big pharma, the other a mid-sized pharma, both doing really well. At different times in both interviews it was mentioned that the Genentech name and reputation is not helping me, and one company said poor past and current leadership decisions are leaking through the industry...that their pure push or comfort with great talent over the past 1-3 years being removed, especially in Medical, was widely known. More so, that our past leadership teams were “naive, foolish, and ill-prepared.” I felt embarrassed. Is anyone else experiencing this? Anyone have serious, good advice? Hoping to get some thoughts beyond the snappy comments.

Over the past 6 years, I have interviewed and rejected 18 candidates with Genentech experience (in IT, Quality, Validation, and Project Management): reason is the same - resumes looks stellar, but candidates were unable to provide substantive examples of their specific hard contributions - their depth of knowledge was very weak, their primary skill was in knowing how to navigate the internal processes & politics within Genentech - these skills are not transferable or valuable elsewhere. A pity, candidates were likeable enough, just overestimated the value of their Genentech experience, and thought they were a shoo-in for new outside roles

So well said. Those there who spent half their time interviewing for their new gig there couldn’t sell themselves to their partner/significant other. When you are looking to move into your forever role and spend 18-24 months in role before moving again, you don’t develop anything measurable in terms of real world skills.

Yeah, sure, ok...you really expect anyone to believe this? You really felt it necessary to come to this board to reveal your findings? LMAO....sorry you weren’t good enough to get hired here. Now move on.
