I encourage anyone that is aware of the large scale corruption at Astellas to contact the FDA. Do not go to the compliance group. Prior experience has shown that they will immediately begin by destroying any evidence that they can find. And compliance will not protect you from retaliation. HR is a waste of time also. The agents at the FDA will be very happy to speak with you concerning Astellas. All complaints are taken seriously. All complaints are fully investigated.

Astellas managers the most incompetent group of managers I have ever come across in my 18 year pharma career.

My resume is out and I already have 2 interviews scheduled.

I love that show where the bosses have to do their employees jobs. I bet if you placed many Astellas Managers in the shoes of their sales reps, they would not meet quota and many would be fired. Managers at this company are held to a difft standard (aka: no standard at all) than the reps. How are we to improve as a company when the managers have no accountability? There is NO LEAD BY EXAMPLE therefore no improvement!
 






You are so right! The MAJORITY of the management team have NEVER sold in today's environment (ie multiple teammates, co-promo partners, R&F, Call Plans!! signature requirements). Yet, they are so quick to "preach" on how to do the job. Many of them bring NOTHING to the table on moving the business forward - constantly pressing on about "messaging"; role playing etc... Has anyone else besides myself ever thought about how the sales meetings are all run by "us" reps (having to prepare presentations, best practice sharing etc..), YET when we go back into the field and go on field rides, we are reminded in the field coaching reports about how ineffective we are as sales people? We get poor ratings/Needs Improvements. Then why don't the managers run the meetings and SHOW US HOW IT'S DONE, since we are so "lacking" in selling skills??? Has anyone else thought about the contradiction in that??? Unbelievable!!

I have only been with Astellas a short time and my manager is beyond the WORST I have ever had in my career! The manager has hurt my business by irritating doctors, is defensive, angry and abusive. I have just grinned and acted positive, but can't take it anymore.

I feel very sorry for you! Some of us have been her for awhile and have watched this company take a downward spiral to what it is now. I feel terrible for someone like you who has only been here a short time. My advice to you is to have the doctors who your manager has irritated to write a letter to you expressing their distaste for how they were treated. It's too bad that you did not talk to someone here before accepting the position. I wish you the best.

Corruption at Astellas, SECOND TO NONE.
 






It is so clearly evident that the "PIP" option remains the so called "sure fire" way that managers can justify pushing an unwanted rep out. The other thing that is BLATANTLY obvious - is that managers "tweek" the sales goals in such a way to ensure that the "right" people on their teams (their favorites) make or exceed their goals, advance to Summit Club etc..Seriously- DO YOU ALL THINK THAT WE (REPS) ARE STUPID??? In many instances, WE reps actually have MORE experience in the industry than our managers have. Just because managers wear the "Manager" title does not somehow give them instant credibility. We all know that many managers did not advance into management because they have actually EARNED IT, (that's what USED to happen in early days when this industry was reputable), but because they may have had a good year in sales, knew someone who gave them an opportunity,which somehow translated into: "Now, you're ready for management". Thus, the reason that there are so MANY non-qualified-lack of leadership skill-insecure-rogue managers around!

BS I was selling when you were still in diapers and people with questionable skills, results and talent were promoted all the time.
 






I've been in the industry for 6 years and I truly respected only two managers out of the 8 I've had to work for. My Astellas manager is one of the worst I have had so far. I sincerely believe that all of the good managers have left pharma and have moved on to other things. The only managers left in Pharma are complete losers willing to throw anyone under the bus to hold on to their meaningless positions.

I would almost respect my manager more if he said, hey guys...I am really getting a lot of pressure to get our numbers up, I am stressed out and have him jump in and help those of us that are struggling to meet quotas or hitting obstacles. Rather it is abusive and makes people so nervous that they end up not performing well in front of doctors, the nervousness of pressure reps are receiving shows to docs...that no one ends up performing well, including our manager.

Yes it is sales, but why in the world do some managers think being abusive assholes and tearing down their reps...is going to help sales is beyond me?!?!? Here is a thought to these types of managers...instead of being insecure, paranoid and abusive...jump in and help your reps with ideas, the docs they are struggling with, MC plans and motivation. Tearing them down hurts all sides and only makes you a toxic manager.
 






Well said! To the managers who have gone CRAZY - Did you ever stop to think about how YOU would feel being managed by a manager like yourself??? Would you be able to tolerate being on the other side of what you are dishing out? Think about it! Remember, you REAP what you SOW!
