Olympus Urology

Olympus Urology is now a C player at best. Word on the street is they let some key personnel go, lowered the commissions to reps to around $160,000, and have a VP in charge that promised positive changes but has failed. You should hear the reps ripping their comp plan apart. I heard it shocked the entire sales force and is really complicated to even understand. To summarize, it sound like they aren’t willing to pay anyone anymore.I f They threw in the towel and just want to be mediocre. Keep tanking Olympus! We are loving watching your slow demise! Hahaha!
If anyone thinks it's complicated to understand.... i feel sorry for them as well as their customers. It's simple.

Throwing in the towel.. being mediorce.. laughing. I also feel sorry for your "customers"

It sounds like Olympus Urology did throw in the towel. They got majority market share then lowered pay to show increased profits, but then everyone seemed to leave. If they do still have reps that have been there for 20 years, that’s embarrassing and pathetic for them. Give these people something to strive towards instead of losing their dignity. The reps that I’ve seen and heard about there now aren’t really good. It does sound like Olympus has made many bad calls over the years and it finally caught up to them. Sounds like they’re moving toward entry level reps servicing accounts who buy stuff online or through a distributor like McKesson.

Olympus does have good products. They reduced pay for reps, and many reps left. They encountered back orders and haven’t been able to recover fully. It is simple. Hopefully they recover soon and figure out how to turn it around.

What’s going on with the iTind treatment device? Weren’t the urology reps selling that? I saw a few docs doing this now it seems non existent. Tried asking a few Uro guys I know about it and they laughed. Asked a Urologist I know and he said it didn’t really work well for long term treatment. Is this still around, or did it fizzle out already? If so that was fast! Would like be to hear any inside scoop on how many procedures were done nationally, cost, reimbursement, and anything else. Only literature I can find online is pretty much all Olympus or Olympus sponsored. If it’s already done, no need.

Ha! Heard they spent $250 Million or something on iTind about 4 years ago and it is failing and on the verge of disappearing. I also heard they’re throwing money at the problem and hiring more reps, but the consensus from the docs I’ve spoken to have said it will be obsolete in 2 years because it doesn’t do much for the patient and doesn’t pay.

The above poster is probably correct. I’m on the iTind team. Don’t take it from me though. Ask someone you know what the yearly iTind sales are. It’s laughable. iTind won’t be around too long. No one is doing it or has an interest in doing it. The team is inexperienced.

former reps in this thread- if you still think olympus uro is not a player you're a former rep that left because comp plan changed.

sorry you can't make 400k sitting home all day. olympus uro isn't perfect but you can still make money if you actually do the work

Ha! You can still make money? I left 2 years ago and am laughing my ass off reading this. Multiple people have said it’s the worst ever in terms of pay. They said it’s a joke and leadership has no clue. They said they went to region meetings and everyone was new talking about the same crap and mediocre products they have talked about for the last 5 years. Nothing new. Olympus has lost their research and development money from a failed acquisition called iTind. If Olympus Urology is so great, ask where their disposable scopes are. They are dead last in that game and won’t be able to make up the difference. Unless they buy a scope company, but wait. They wasted too much money on that crappy product iTind that will be dropped soon enough. If interviewing, just ask the questions. Or ask the OR Directors how awesome Olympus is. Olympus is only great for a recent college graduate who is excited to break into the industry. If you have been there long term, you’re washed up. Move on.

Olympus still has great products, but unfortunately they dug a hole for themselves by lowering pay and losing 80% of the tenured sales force over the last few years. It’s going to take years for them to be top tier again, and they would benefit by bringing in top tier experienced leaders. They’re far from it now.
