Olympus Urology

Is it true 15-20 people have left Olympus Urology recently including top people with many more coming? Word on the street is commissions were significantly cut and the sales force does not care for the guy in charge. What happened over there?

Most urology reps at Olympus are old and washed up. That’s why us recruiters target the young up and coming reps there. They can make a little money, but they will not go anywhere after a few years. I think most reps and managers there stay in their positions forever. If you work there and want to succeed, get out of that company. Succeed for a year or two, and then do yourself a favor. Talk to us recruiters to get into a serious medical company for a reputable career. To prove this point, ask how long the reps and mangers have been in their roles. There is no movement. If you want to be lazy and average though, this could be the right company for you.

What happened to Olympus Urology? I’m a Director at a hospital and we are trying to get support, and there wasn’t a rep to support us. I spoke to some friends who told me most Olympus Urology reps have left, and more will be leaving. Are they in danger of going out of business? The products are great, but I have seen a downgrade in support from Olympus, and there also seems to have been an irregular amount of back orders and recalls lately. Does anyone know what is going on? Should we be looking at other companies to partner with?

Olympus Urology is now a C player at best. Word on the street is they let some key personnel go, lowered the commissions to reps to around $160,000, and have a VP in charge that promised positive changes but has failed. You should hear the reps ripping their comp plan apart. I heard it shocked the entire sales force and is really complicated to even understand. To summarize, it sound like they aren’t willing to pay anyone anymore. They threw in the towel and just want to be mediocre. Keep tanking Olympus! We are loving watching your slow demise! Hahaha!

Heard Olympus Urology now started offering $70k salaries. This is a first. I used to work there, and it was always commission only. There was no limit. Now there is. Heard most tenured reps have left or will be leaving soon. This is now an intro level company. If you’re graduating college and want to get into the industry, this is a good choice. Good products, but be careful of the poor leadership. I could see Olympus going to a distributor model or $100k support specialist role. They aren’t that competent. Unfortunately the Olympus that was once great has diminished. Olympus Has Fallen!

Plain and simple, Matt Woodward is over his head! I actually feel bad for him as he is trying hard to fake it. He got the job because he was close friends with Richard and had some experience as a AVP and marketing director. Never a VP of Sales and never an Executive Director of Marketing. It was evident in the hiring process that Richard was going to ram this thru. Matt is a good guy, but just way over his head and not to mention has a global leader in Glen that literally has no clue what he is doing. They need to wipe the slate clean with both of them and actually hire someone with experience versus hope and pray these two gain experience and don't drive the company in the ground in the process.

What was the big change at the Olympus Urology division? It seems like they don’t exist anymore in hospitals, and the reps in my division and I all seem to have entry level associates as sales reps for Olympus. Trust me, I’m not complaining because it’s quite easy to compete against them. Are they going to inside sales or a rep-less model?

They reduced the pay of the reps across the board since significantly. This led to a mass exodus of most tenured reps. They now are stuck with entry level reps and are hiring entry level reps ok making $125k. From what I hear, their good reps continue to leave weekly. Olympus does not seem like a quality medical device company. It seems like a place for an entry level sales rep to start which could be compared to Enterprise rental car.

Cafe pharma never fails…Olympus Urology is the best division of the company. Better than endo. They own the market. It’s true it’s not a $350k role anymore without getting out of bed in the morning. Ppl that left are chasing dollars. It’s still a great stable role with crazy tenure. There’s ppl that have been reps for over 20 years over there. Very uncommon.
