October Layoffs

Pfizer has been, is now, and always will be one sorry cluster f@&$. With no companies to buy, no products in the pipeline, we are screwed. All that's left are those with 10-20 yrs waiting for a fat severance, the 1-5 yr. people doing nothing but taking the company for all they can get. I am one of them, actually double-dipping with another paycheck from another Pharma company.
I'll ride it while I can, save a bundle, and wait to get layed-off. Frankly, I can't stand this shit anymore. Every day is a waste of life doing nothing but the same routine.

You're partially right. 13 years ago we were THE place to be. You may remember the days when we were buying up large companies left and right, firing their leadership, and promoting our jetsam up the chain. (Anyone here remember who our General Business Unit Managers were in 2004? How many of them still work here?)

The problem (for the entire industry, it seems) was exacerbated when we stopped "R&D'ing" for drugs with $500-800 million potential, and only focused on finding new Lipitor-strength products.

Weak pipeline + piss-poor upper management gets us the Pfizer of 2014. But the Pfizer of 2017 will have a much, MUCH smaller headcount in the field.

While these self-entitled whiners are bitching about sharing rooms, they don't seem to understand that there's a good chance that about a third of them (including, not coincidentally, an inordinate share of the senior-most) will be on the streets two years from this date.

There will be NO layoffs. I am so sick of this %^$!! We are right-sized for the for the next 4 years, at least. We are #1, and will CONTINUE to be #1. They can't cut us any more than they have over the past 8 years. So go out there and do your jobs, and stop being sissy-Marys.

EVERY October each organization or site reviews their headcount and decides whether any positions can be eliminated. This happens EVERY October.

Agree with this, but it's not every year we lose LOE of a major like Celebrex & just watch how generic companies find a way to sneak in a version of Viagra one way or another. Just hang tight.

Agreed.
If you think this is a joke or you think things are not going to restructure quickly, you are sadly mistaken. I hope you are going to face reality and prepare yourself and your family.

How am I sad and naive? So you think they will pull hundreds of reps off of Celebrex with 3 months to go? You're crazy. Come back in October/November and lets talk.

Do I really need to explain "Income versus expense to you?"
That would be your first mistake-? Not understanding this is your first mistake.
