OBU opinions needed

The only reason the KAM overlays and additional headcount made ANY sense was because of the idea that we were about to acquire something in the immediate future to add to our bag. Now with the Takeda situation, I doubt shire will spend a penny on anything in Eyecare until the dust settles and they know where they stand with the transition. So if we are acquired... with almost 300 field reps, and 1 drug that had less than $300M in sales last year, it’s chop chop time. I’m thinking goals for Q2 are going to be painful.

So let me get this straight. 300 reps in OBU making under $300 million and in NBU 500 reps doing over $2.5 billion. How are most of you making higher salaries and bigger bonuses than we are? How are any of you going to Presidents club? How do you have company cars? Answer to all those questions = NBU Revenue. Nice to know my hard work pays for your lifestyles. Shire is like government. They redistribute to those who don't earn and deserve

How old is your drug? How old is mine? STFU

Vyvanse’s sales from 2008, their first full year on the market, was $319M. So pretty much right where xiidra is at. Xiidra will be a billion dollar drug, NBU is selling a drug that sells itself, and any contract sales force could do just the same. It’s the same reason Abbott gave a contract sales force Synthroid, Lilly gave them Cymbalta, you get the idea. Established brands sell themselves. So who’s the more valuable sales team? The spinoff proposal should tell ya where OBU vs NBU stands in Shire’s mind.

That $319 million was not full year of data. Also Adderall XR and Daytrana dollars were still sufficient to take care of our business unit. We weren't relying on other people's money to pay for us. Only reason you got to $300 million is because NBU stepped in and helped out your lagging numbers. Probably would have been under $200 million without them bringing in the A team as Perry called us. That would make you part of the JV squad

You need to read the footnote.

$300 million in sales for Xiidra

($189 million in free Rx coupons)

Folks, I feel so bad for those of you remaining in OBU sales. Shire OBU was my first job in industry and I didn't know what was what - thought all the glitz and glam and glory by the (self-proclaimed) demi-Gods on stage, set to snazzy music, was for real. I thought it was normal to spend a gazillion dollars on pre-approval exhibit booth space (the biggest! the brightest! the best of all!) at dozens of congresses selling exactly nothing was normal, I thought having a salesforce selling nothing but a disease state already well-known to every half-assed and dim-witted eye care practitioner out there was good business practice. I believed BD and his butt-lickers that this was going to be the next Viagra - that the world would shift ever so slightly on its axis because Xiidra was here!! A Beautiful Label! Waves of people will line up to buy this amazing SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS drug!!! I didn't see reality until I left. I can tell you now that sh*t isn't normal - it's terrible business practice and that whole launch was a laughingstock in the industry. Shire is described as 'a hot mess' or 'completely disorganized' or 'chicken with its head cut off' or 'lots of prima donnas at the top squashing all you folks' by so many others outside. There is NO NEW DATA, no studies planned to give sales anything new to talk about. They are so afraid of messing up their barely discernible differentiation margin that they will let the whole thing implode like an overcooked souffle' instead of taking a risk. It's a ridiculous thing and I hope every single one of you gives the entire leadership a big F U as you walk out to bigger and better brighter futures.

Bullshit there were no newbies hired. Coming from a DM...

OBU=JV TEAM
Over half of sales numbers for Xiidra were free coupons redeemed by patients who did not stay on product

We gave it away on Trx and never got the Nbrx .No wonder takeda doesnt want this sinking ship with the worst sales force in pharma. Flem, Mark, Perry and Kathy are right, we need more contract reps and rid the dead weight we are carrying.

Semantics. They are right though, they didn't hire anyone without any pharmaceutical sales experience at all. Without eyecare, yes. The other poster is full of shit.

OP here - I never said I was sales. Lots of folks on that BS launch weren't reps. believe it or not, while sales are critical, there are other functions that work on a product too. I got downsized like many others and laughed all the way to the bank with my fat severance while I had already taken a job at another company. I hope you guys can get out with money in your hands as well,
