Oblivious ABLs...

My manager is being extremely cool about this whole thing. Helping us get our stuff together while still helping us with the business to try to make a tiny bit of money before we are axed. Unfortunately, this is uncommon and one of the major reasons why this company is in a death spiral. They have been running off good leaders and keeping the lackeys since the Sanofi Aventis merger. The last few remaining good leaders will most likely be gone soon. Good Lord willing they will take us with them!

I picture a future scenario where there is but one ABD left and he is in charge of the last rep whose territory is the entire USA with the ABD's opening directive being, "Go see 80% of your MDs by the meeting in six weeks and then we will write a BP for the coming year."

I've had my same clueless manager for the last three downsizings. He says the same thing every time, "maybe I'm naive, but I didnt think this was coming". Shut up ass, we all knew it was coming!

When I resigned in December, I told my ABL I was worried about the trends and that there might be another layoff soon. She's been here so long she believed upper management when they said there will be no changes in 2019. She told me Sanofi was strong and that things were looking up. I told her to look at the reality of the numbers (mainly the huge yearly drop in Lantus sales and the fact that Toujeo would never make it up and that Soliqua sucked in the market place). She told me I was wrong. Whatever. I hate being right, because now my friends are in trouble of losing their jobs. But this just showed me again how drunk some of these long term ABLs are on the Sanofi kool aid. They can't even see the obvious. It's sad, but it's another of the reasons why this place is struggling. Prayers to all those out there, and best of luck.

True you have to be in total denial not to see the lack of future in DCV. As a whole the organization is still very strong and will be fine. However, this business sector is being phased out. If you want to stay with Sanofi you need to get out of DCV.

Disagree. For those individuals, it has nothing to do with drinking the cool aid. It is the cowardly way they cover their asses, make believe nothing is wrong, and will throw anyone under the bus rather than having any degree of integrity. For a case study of this dynamic, just look to the past ( and some present)to the ABL’s from the former Mid-Atlantic Region.
Nuf said.

It's been a month and our ABL is acting like nothing is happening. They addressed it once - to our pod, saying that we need to make sure whoever is left doesn't have a bad June/Q3/etc by making sure we stay engaged and keep "making an impact". Other than that, they just keep plugging along like it's business as usual. They even had the audacity to say that "we had a rough few weeks of data - come on team, we're better than this!" - because we all know why the data was bad - we're all deflated and yet this moron is just gonna pretend this isn't a real issue. For the first time in my professional life, I truly despise my boss.

Um, let me guess. He/She is a 90 day wonder; has been an awesome ass-kisser; or was once a protege of the old Middle Atlantic group of managers. My vote: 90 day wonder and female.

I agree. Sick of hearing he may stay but so many weeks of pay, bonus, lump sum, etc is too enticing. Recruiter said he would not have trouble getting another job. Says he’s trying to keep us focused for the Bonus in September. Please.
This third party already has the list of who stays or goes. It can’t be any subjective criteria... probably last three years of rankings, location in territory (which we pretty much all have), and that’s about it. Anything subjective opens Sanofi to lawsuits.

so many Sanofi ABLs have spent almost their entire careers at Sanofi that it's hard for me to imagine them surviving (let alone thriving) outside of this place. My ABL has never worked for another pharma company in their 20+ years. They truly have NO idea what's out there. It's going to be painful to watch them struggle to get new positions. Heck, our own company doesn't like to hire DCV ABLs (the person that was like the national #1 or #2 DCV ABL last year couldn't even get an INTERVIEW for a Genzyme spot). So to all you ABLs thinking you're so awesome and you won't have a problem getting another job - you'd better be prepared...

At first my manager was against VEEP cuz he was told his problem would be which job to pick. Now reality has set in and he’s going to take his chances. He was advised how challenging our job market is...welcome to the real world, buddy.

So true.Other companies aren't exactly tripping over themselves to hire Sanofi DCV ABLs. The recruiter I'm working with said that DCV ABLs aren't that respected by some hiring folks because they believe it wasn't (her words, not mine) "hard to sell water in the desert" - in regards to Lantus at its peak. I work in the region of that guy who finished #1 and couldn't get a sniff from Genzyme. That has to tell you something when our own company won't even interview a DCV person...

my loser ABL survived and so did I. And of course that bastard had a conference call in the afternoon as we were all dealing with losing our friends. Didn’t even acknowledge them- just said we have to move on and started business as normal. I truly hate this “man”.

Now you know why he was retained. Willing to throw anyone under the bus and has the empathy of a Nazi prison guard. Probably going to get a fat raise and a car upgrade next go-around. Ahhhhh the Sanofi experience!
