Novartis - Training

For better opportunity or because the training is a cluster****?

This is the worst training I have ever been though by far - Can someone please attempt to explain the reasoning for the Oral Board questions? We will NEVER have any sort of discussion on any of those topics in the questions with doctors - It is a worthless exercise in having to memorize information we will never use - WTF is the point?

This is the absolute worst training program that I've ever been through. They grossly underestimate the time it takes to do the modules. One module took me 4 1/2 hours and they said it would take 50-60 minutes. If you take notes and really want to try to learn it, it takes forever. They are trying to give us the knowledge base that a Cardiologist has in a 3 week home study program. There's no time to learn all of this and then they expect us to memorize 10 oral board questions with 4-5 parts each. It's ridiculous... I have anxiety, depression, lack of appetite, I can't sleep, I don't want to take care of myself (i.e. shower/wash my hair), over this ridiculous home study program. I do not think this contract will last.... PCP's will not want to really prescribe this or just a small handful. According to the Novartis reps., Cardiologists are hardly prescribing it. I DO NOT LIKE THIS CONTRACT AT ALL!!!!!!! Novartis is by far worse than AZ......

I hear you loud and clear and am 100% sympathetic. I too am stressed out. Not sleeping well, etc. I am a smart person with great study/learning skills and I too am taking way more than 1 hour per module on the HF modules. I really want to learn it and not just get through it. I'm studying and doing modules every night. You gotta do what you gotta do. I know everyone on my precious AZ contract that's on this one now feels the same as you do. We're all smart, competent and capable professionals. Too much was crammed into this. The focus should've been only on disease state, product knowledge, PI, Paradigm. All the other ancillary stuff could've been tabled for later. All we can do is the best we can. It sounds like you're doing your best. Try to relax your brain this weekend. I haven't even started on the oral board question prep. No time. I will start this weekend. Chin up.

Best post ever!!!!!

Some of these Oral Board questions are just impossible to memorize. They are unrealistic for the most part and most docs would laugh if we ever brought them up in a real life discussion.

apparently NONE of you have been in pharm. long. This how training was in the beginning. A month at home and then a month away. 2-3 pass or fired tests a week. Videotaped oral verbalizations and full detail. Most of pharma have moved away from this model as outdated, stressful, and expensive. Used to a screening tool to see who really tried. All it did was lower morale, cause gastro intestinal distress, and turn us into Pfizer bots. And we know that was the begining of the end. So eat well, rest, and practice, practice, practice. Eveybody going to training is in the same boat-fried, so get together and help each other out. I made it thru twice (having gone thru once it did NOT help) and so can you. Good luck!

I went through horrible training, 3 weeks home study and 3 weeks away, with my former company. None of memorization shit!!!

This is no doubt the worst training ever. The Oral Boards are a complete joke. We have to memorize 10 questions that will never come up in real world selling situations. They serve no purpose except to stress most everyone out. Then there is the testing - we where told that we had to pass one test with a score of 90% and now there are 5 tests that we have to pass with a score of 90%. That was quite the surprise to drop on us in this last week of messed up training. Don't forget those pesky compliance courses that we suddenly have to find time to complete before we get to Orlando! It gets even better - they expect us to get right out in the field after being away and working for 11 straight days, with no time to prepare and put together a routing plan! Most of us will get home late at night - you think that they would at least give us one admin day to recover and get our feet back on the ground before getting out in the field. This whole thing has been one blunder after another. Sure, I am glad to have a job, but I expect a shred of common sense from the training dept. and management, none of which I have seen so far. If we did our job as poorly as this training was put together, we would be shown the door after our first day in the field. It is sad that we have to bear the burden for out of an out of touch training dept. that sets unreasonable goals and expects us to learn a massive amount of challenging material in such a short period of time. I wish everyone the best as this nightmare continues to unfold.
