Neuromodulation

Could someone please tell me what expected comp would be for a field marketing specialist and if this is a good role. Interviewing for position in Albany, NY this week. Is the sales team in Albany any good. Thank you for any honest feedback.

Careful - personnel covering that area has a checkered past. BSX has quite a few MDT retreads that were pushed out of MDT for one reason or another.

Re: Neuromodulation I am a real patient

Hello, I found this page looking for some feedback from patients who have used Stimulator's. I recently had my trial and Medtronic programed it. They had a lot of difficulty and the last day of the trial I met them at the docs office and a more experienced person reprogrammed it. The problem is the stim had to be turned up so high before it reached the area it needed to. My pain is in the SI joint and I have had previous back surgeries with hardware. The stim was so high I could barely walk so they turned it down and when they did pain relief left to . The doc called in Boston Scientific and they reprogrammed it. BS says the battery is smaller than MT and easier to recharge. I am not scheduled for surgery until mid January and really need some honest feedback.
If you guys had to have one of these implanted, which would you choose? Is there really one coming out that is MRI compatible?
I am so tired of living on pain pills and since the rhizotomy , the one in the office failed, they said due to the hardware near the SI joint-- there does not seem a lot left. It seems the SI joint is difficultlt area to work with. I have seen the results of surgery to that area and it is scary. I have had fusions on L 3, 4, 5, 6. at different times and appears I may have some scar tissue.
so, here I am , enlighten me..... :)

BSC HANDS DOWN. IVE PUT ALL THREE IN AND I THINK ALL ARE VERY GOOD PLATFORMS. I DID LIKE MDT LEADS BUT PREFERRED BSC'S PROGRAMMING. IN THE END IT WAS MORE ABOUT THE REP THAT COVERED MY CLINIC. HE JUST WAS ALWAYS AVAILABLE FOR ME AND MY PATIENTS

What is your doctor telling you? Go with your docs recommendation if you trust them, if not, find a new doc. If MRI is important to you, MDT has that device. Don't look for unbiased guidance here. Service and clinical technical ablities is a strong consideration but again, that is ONLY information your doc can give you because it varies by region. Look into product warranty info as it will vary too.

My doc was said what was used depended on the insurance and referral doc. In my case it did not matter so when they saw and option to switch to BS they did. This is really all I have been told. So the standard pat answer to do what your doc says seldom works as there are all kinds of reasons a doc might use one brand over another.

Batteries are all about the same size.

Medtronic MRI labeling is for head and neck only. Also, all three companies products are made from the same materials (generally speaking), Medtronic paid for the studies for MRI labeling, hence they can make that claim (again for head and neck only).

What I would look into more than the charger, is the remote control differences. The BS remote control's range to the implant is a few feet vs MDT where you have to hold the remote's antenna over the implant to make changes in the stimulation.

Ultimately, you should base your decision on how your trial went (from start with MDT to finish with BS) and the recommendations of your physician. And your expectation should be that the trial is replicated, nothing more (sometimes the perm implant is better than the trial, typically its the same, very rarely it's not as good). I sincerely hope your surgery goes well for you and I hope this info helps.

Is MRI a big part of your life? do you have a condition that requires frequent MRI? does the fear of having an MRI at some point outweigh the better coverage you had from the Boston OMG during your trial?

Sure the Boston battery is smaller by about 2 CC. It will recharge easier and in less time than the MDT systems. The actual battery drain will depend on your usage, but on average, expect to do this 1 hour/week.

The boston peripherals are much better to live with in the long run. Wireless remotes that adjust in real time, and the ability to actually shape and sculpt the electrical current in 1% increments. (other companies are on or off 100%, leaves gaps in the coverage that they try to compensate for by cranking up the power or implanting bigger electrodes).

Did the boston rep put the remote in your hand and let you adjust the stim settings after he programmed you? Most patients feel more comfortable with the very simple wireless remote.

The thing I like about the boston programmer is that we rely heavily on algorithms to navigate your pain pattern, so whether the new guy, or the seasoned vet program you, results wont differ as much as our competitors.

Just some food for thought, my competitors are going to respond with the following:

Restore Sensor makes our remote obsolete (despite the fact that MDT studies showed a very small reduction in actual button clicks)

OMG is just a placebo effect brought on by leading questions. (if OMG is placebo, why don't all the companies have one? Did you notice in your OMG that once the rep found your pain area, they could move up down, left right all around it? and that MDT had to jump around a lot more ?)

Boston Doesn't have a non rechargeable system...(not many ppl want to be implanted with a brick sized battery that goes dead every couple of years and even if you have a bad shoulder, it's not like you will be able to reach behind you to use your SJM or MDT remote, which you will need to use often)

and the list goes on....

You drink way too much kool aid. Nice to be confident in your products but you need to be real. OMG is a sales tool. Nothing more. Desparate people can be talked into anything. Especially by desparate sales reps. Most ethical reps don't feel good about using it. And most docs (not all) feel the same way. The other companies don't use it for the reasons mentioned. I have no idea what you are trying to say by explaining away placebo.

Dear patient- the net net is all the devices work reasonably well when placed in the correct spot and when the patient is motivated. That said- none of them work consistently well for back pain. And most importantly never let a rep talk you into anything.

here's how it works...
mdt.... do you feel it?
pt... yeah my entire body is shaking
mdt.... don't worry our sensor will fix it, of course you have no idea b/c we don't let u trial it, but just take my word for it.

SJM: do you feel it?
pt... kind of... but its strong
SJM... it's okay i will make you a million programs
Doc... don't worry i'll put in a giant sharp paddle
pt... why do i smell burning flesh every time i charge? why does my battery go on and off for no reason at all?

BSX... doctor, I was able to navigate across over 70000 central points of stim and provide your patient with seamless coverage of his low back without recruiting any unwanted areas. He is happy with the coverage, the wireless peripherals and simple remote.
Doctor... all your cans are the same, i want to make more money on trials sjm and mdt give me studies and make me a promotional speaker
Hospital... MDT Priced their full system at 10K now you have to match or we will lock you out.
BSX Corp... congratulations on the successful perm, here is 0.005% comp... keep up the hard work and you will hit the 1.1% multiplier.

Just call a BSX pt, a SJM pt, and a MDT Sensor pt and you will learn the differences. No need to quote studies or catch phrases I learned in training. Just have your physicians tell patients to do that. I bet you won't.
