ok...if you think your "job" is not a joke and you take it seriously, good for you...I guess a psychiatrist would say your are making the adjustments your psyche needs to stay in alignment..

but if bringing meat trays and hiding in sample closets to get a signature is really your idea of a fulfilling career, than have it...

Personally, my dignity was worth more than watching Merck go down the tubes and being associated with it...

I wish I could erase all the drug rep bs off of my resume...It makes me feel cheap and dirty and dumb...

I could not agree with this post more. There was a time years ago that when doing this job really did make a difference. It got to a point where the money was just not worth my dignity, pride and self respect. Morning bagel and Starbucks dropping, lunches where year after year the time with physicians became less and less. It is not honest work anymore. We did not go to college to crouch in a sample closet and spout off a canned message.

Decades ago when I joined Merck we were truly professional sales representatives. Now we are exactly what this poster described. If you ask a physician who brought you the donuts this morning the answer is likely, "I don't know and I don't care but a drug rep or bunch of them would drop them off by 9 a.m." When asked again most would say I have no idea what products they have either.
 






Well, I seldom drag around "deli trays" and have not for a good decade now. Also, I have no samples, so I have not been in a sample closet in years either. If I was back in that atmosphere with the busy work trackers, the B.S. meetings, the over-the-top manager with the two day ride-a-longs, and the superficial messaging, I'd probably shoot myself.

Being with Mother for a long time and kind of old fashioned, I do not drag around deli trays. It seems to be more of a tradition for the younger reps and especially the female. May be I want to maintain the last sign of professionalism before I say goodbye to Merck.

OP back again.

I hope everyone's eyes are fully opened now and people realize that Merck is gonna screw you one way or another. Screwed out of bonus, pathetic "raises" with no hope in sight. Meanwhile the fatcats in upper management are still making bank. I'm still doing what I can to keep my total "Merck" hours to 15 per week. Some weeks have been a little more lately though but there has also been some 12 hour weeks too.

I've started my own little side business a several weeks ago. That's why I've been off CP for a while. Word of mouth business only and cash only! I've been making $25 per hour cash and have been putting in 20-30 hours per week. That's an extra $2000-$3000 cash per month for yours truly! Sweet! I don't feel one bit guilty doing it either since Merck's only goal is to screw us out of bonus and PIP out the tenured reps making decent money.

Like my Grandpa used to say, "Son, you can either be the hammer or the nail, which one you gonna be?" Well my Merck brothers and sisters, what are you gonna be? I see the games Merck is playing and I used to be that devoted kool aid drinker working my ass off, but no more. It's Hammer Time for me now! Embrace 15x15 and enjoy the lifestyle!

I give my 15% to Merck, getting screwed on bonus, wasn't suprised. The small base increase, then 7% increases on drug cost. Huh?
Merck is great on modivating the sales force, sales get the business, not marketing!

Yep, give them 15 hours a week & no more. Screwed on bonus, pathetic raises and psychopath managers who's only goal is to "manage" the older reps out of the company. No respect from them so I guess I'm just reciprocating. If they pretend to value and pay me to work, then I will just pretend to work. It's 15x15 for me baby!

15x15 Guy here,

Had a great time down on the gulf last week with my wife and friends. Took the whole week and did not use any vacation time at all! Sweet. Checked my email a couple times a day and had two teleconferences that I took from my condo overlooking the ocean while drinking Bloody Marys on the balcony.

In all I worked maybe 6 hours. I already knew who was in their offices for the week and recorded my calls and activity accordingly. I even called a couple old friends that got pushed out by Merck in the last couple of years and told them what I've been doing and they were glad for me. I have this down to a science now and my relationships with customers really help and my numbers are fine. The cash side business has been good. I also made and extra $1800 cash in March with it.

My stress level has really gone down since I do not really care about Merck anymore at all. To them I'm just a number anyway. So to me, they are just another source of money deposited in my account once a month. They have screwed over many and are going after more good reps now to "PIP" them out of Merck so I don't feel the least bit guilty.

your post reeks of jealousy...i guess you are one of the schmucks that actually puts in 40 hours for the crooks that run Merck...

don't you see? the guy doesn't care if he gets caught...but until he does, he is not going to waste his time working much, for a company that treats their sales force with contempt...

Anyone that gives anything over the bare minimum for Merck, is wasting their energy and effort...

Don't be such a hater! Look, I'm no idiot. Do you really think I would do this if I knew I was leaving any tracks? Cell phone? Never used the company cell phone last week when I was on the beach. I did everything on my personal smart phone. Merck can't track that. Computer records? I've got that figured out too. It's amazing what can be done with the new smart phones and technology!

If I never had to do ride alongs with my manager and meet with my local reps, I know I could leave for a month and nobody would know. Besides, my manager is so afraid of what he/she thinks I have in my notes and records, they aren't gonna mess with me. Believe it! I'm really the last person they would think that is doing this. I also have records and recordings that could put our DCO in a very, very tough situation too. If anyone messes with me I will blow the whistle on them. Until then, it's 15x15 for me. Enjoy the lifestyle!

I actually have some shit on my DCO as well; By chance does your DCO have "red" hair? Soon to be joining the ranks of the "do as little as possible" and lie field employees because I am so sick of busting my ass and getting beat down by this prick.
