Misery in VBU

My my my! How things have changed. The VBU was the darling of the ball for quite awhile. Then, history repeated itself 3x over. We've seen this before. Vaccines is where the "elite" reps go. Only they are just quick talking BS artist. Then the crap hits the fan and they scurry like rats off a sinking ship. Seen this play out a couple times in my career. If history repeats, and it most likely will, you will see massive pressure placed on the VBU. Many will leave on their own others go out on "disability" and others laid off. You had a great run and were able to hide for ten years. Now the music has stopped and it's time to pay the piper.

You seem a little disgruntled.

In my area we have VBU reps that due to not enough territories, we have two reps. covering the same territory. It's obvious that packages are not being given and we are waiting for the last man standing. Older reps with time under their belts will go one way or another kicking and screaming. If you've been with the business for 25+ years and have not accumulated good savings and pension, you've done something wrong.
The writing is on the wall and look into the mirror. Move on with your life and out of GSK.

Absolutely the truth. Last I heard he had gone to medical leave to avoid the inevitable but that was months ago.

Never work for him but in region, rumor was Steirer a tyrant as a manager and never had a winning team and was demoted for his failure and lack of self awareness. With that said, I hope it isn't a serious medical and just using STD to hide out from the inevitable. Can't be on STD for ever so eventually he will be gone or not.

A Loser

Steirer was the worst. he had a rep who had a wife dying. He was working with the rep when the reps wife was seriously ill. He told the rep he had to take vacation time to be with the wife who eventually died of cancer.

Smith Kline was full of a bunch of dog-faced bully SOB's.

SmithKline Beecham managers followed reps unknowingly to see if the rep was working, it was the culture. Reps would say they'd see their manager following them and always the manager would deny it. As a former manager, I can tell you we were absolutely instructed to spy on them. We were also instructed to tell the rep at some point in the day to go ahead and make a call on your own. At that point we would strip search the car looking for beer cans, open sample bottles or anything else to hang over their heads.
Those tactics are not used today, but be sure you are being watched. So best advise, just work.

Heh, they did love to micromanage.

Misery in field sales in the VBU. OMG, how realistic are the expectations? Are our leaders, leaders?
How much of what we are asked to do, really makes a difference. Can you envision yourself here in five years?
