MBA Sales Reps

You are a minion. Happy and not in debt and have an MBA in this day in age ESP paid for by mother Merck. Quit being an unfrateful/ underachiever/ hater. Merck paid for mine you du,b ass. And they did not allow/ elect you. So quot being a hater.

Your kids will have a univ of Arkansas degree working for 7/11. Congrats MBA hater! Hahahahahahahahahahaha

Ha ha got my parchment when you were a seedling.
Nope didn't work here...sweat n toil!

Committment to betterment?

True test-----> will YOU foot the bill!?

You have to decide.

Everything in life is a cost benefit analysis.

If Merck pays, that's great.

If you have to pay, then you have to figure out if the possible return is worth it or not.

Some people get the degree while as a rep are planning to move on and do something else outside the pharma industry.

You are not going to learn much, except how to network with a bunch of brown nosed fools. I hate the terms "brown nose" or "butt kisser"...but I can't think of any other way to put it.

I got my Masters at 24, and thought about the MBA, but I just didn't there was much more to it, except if I wanted into operations or finance...and both of those seem boring.

Most MBA s I know said that it was a joke for the most part, like most graduate programs.

You just answered your own question. An MBA is of no use to you. It may be to another person.

Some MBA programs are more vigorous than others. My local community college also offer an MBA which is easy to get versus the program at the state university.

Of course networking is part of any graduate program.

Community college offers 2 years of education, associates degree only. Two years short of the bachelorsn degree...

Dont you know you need a bachelors degree before you can even get an MBA?

I say you are a bogus post.

I received my PhD completely paid by Merck. No one with an ounce of common sense would pay for an advanced degree when the employer picks up the tab.

As you people fight over the acronym MBA, Amgen has lowered the rep bar to high school graduate. Read the fine print. Should they choose, a high school degree will work for them.

I will say the MBA degree from any school gives people a good balance of skill-sets and vision.

...most people do not have employers pay their way for graduate degrees. People who work for major corporations with these benefits are clearly lucky ducks....I bet many have a spoiled (and very entitled) attitude......and truth is they are a very small minority of total student enrollment.

Doubt if any employer would pay for a doctorate....most require working internships as part of the requirements.....Hey, that would also mean I can go to med school while I rep!

Not bogus. Some community colleges actually offer a few bachelor-level and master-level degrees, usually in partnership with area universities. I can name at least two doing that around my area.

Your description of a community college is correct about 40-50 years ago when they offered only associate and technical degrees.

All MBAs are all very different.

Some you may become a marketing pro, but actually not acquire much at all in finance.

Look closely.

What is your problem with the people who found out how to get their advanced degree paid for?

It is not rocket science but hard effort and networking. Mine was paid. Not some mysterious gift. Quit being haters and beat your way out of your wet paper sack!

Do you have one?

Well, you sound like the men who have small penis' who say it is how you use it not the size.

I'm sure yours is tiny Tim small.

So sad.

I don't remember my size being questioned on the application or degree. You are just angry because I can find a job if I was ever to be let go. Also the MBA's have the final say on who goes. You should be nicer to us and treat us with the respect we deserve. I would hate for you too miss some mortgage payments because of your mouth if we ever had a chance to meet.

Correct, its not rocket science and given the right set of circumstances anyone can get any degree. Getting any degree is a good thing. However, some do have an "I'm not willing to pay for it" attitude. I'll get the degree ONLY IF someone else pays for it. They would totally reject the thought if they had to foot that bill. The truth is its more than the degree that defines you. Its your willingness to do whatever it takes to earn the degree that says a heck of a lot more.

Please list a few community colleges that offer higher degrees than the standard associates.

And this is why paper pushers rule and their companies fail.

I know this is a old thread but having a Ivy undergrad and a Ivy League MBA I will tell you it did not do much for me once in a company. I will say it helps when getting hired but that is about it. As far as the education itself I did not drink the Harvard koolaid so I'd say much of what I learned was pretty useless. I did meet many useful people from a connection standpoint but was not impressed with the aptitude of many of my classmates. So if you're going for (Knowledge) not (Education) forget about it. If you just want something extra on the resume that will open very few (worthwhile) doors also forget about it.

Ultimately looking back I wish I had avoided college all together and used that money to start my own business. I have friends with no degrees making money hand over fist being their own boss. Don't care what anyone says if your goal in life is to climb the corporate ladder you'll die an empty shell of yourself in the end.

There are plenty of more fun ways to make money and be happy without sheep skins and managers.

recovering 6 year veteran of the big pharma industry and 17 in specialty pharmaceuticals. Happy new small healthcare business owner. The only thing I'll thank pharma for is giving me the chance to make the serious money I did while in the field to open the doors to my business. The only thing I can thank my education for was giving the tolerance to consume large amounts of alcohol without making an ass of myself. Not to mention the credit I built paying back the debt on something I could have ultimately gotten for free at the public library.

Hope that helps, btw I no longer look at education when hiring at my company. Been burnt by enough "smart" people. I look at experience and personality and personality is pretty much all I care about at the end of the day.

I got my MBA on the company dime and time and have no regrets. Actually, the sad thing is that I had by far the best, highest paying job out of all my classmates. Doing the MBA made me appreciate what I have and kept me from going crazy with boredom. I highly recommend bettering yourself for while you have the opportunity. I'm now considering pursuing a MS in biotechnology. Why not? Lord knows I have enough time on my hands...
