Mark S gone?

Who is going to post first on what the heck happened today. What are these people doing and where did they learn to run a successful company? What a horrible decision! I foresee a mass exodus in the near future.

I wonder if they paid his severance with bagels and lemonade?

Agree. This was the wrong decision and for those reps that may not care or be happy trust me I have known Mark for a long time and he stuck up and believed in us. I hope there is a mass exodus because these people need to hear and see what they are doing to us. Mark was always there for us and while we may not all agree with every decision he was an advocate for us. Oh well just another lousy decison by the King guys. Trust me I am updating my resume. As for Mark I wish him well and would follow him anywhere.

I am in shock. For many of us Mark is the reason we are here and stayed and put up with these ridiculous quotas. If the reason he was let go was because we were not hitting our ridiculous stupid quota on Solaraze I can atest Mark did his best to see we worked as hard as we did to accomplish the best we could with what we had to work with. He was fair, knowledgable and many of my Derms and Pods loved him. He was a sales guy and loved the sales force. I just feel like all the wind has been taken out of my sail.

Well RL will be gone too and thats all he is good for doing is looking at tit>>>>>. Not sure if he set the forcasts or not but Mark will be missed. Mona in charge is just ridiculous. This woman knows nothing about anything especially sales and sales people. At this point it just proves they do not know what they are doing. I am so disgusted right now. If there goal was to sell this company they better do it soon because many reps called me today and said this was the straw for them. Good luck when no one is selling. Personally as high as my quotas were Mark was one of the reasons I got up everyday and really really tried.

Mark used to be an advocate but really hasn't been listening to us for a long time. Maybe a new VP will be good. I am going see who they bring in and then decide what to do. Jeff did say in his message that they are looking so it shouldn't be too long.

I don't get it......dozens of posts about MS and how bad he was and should go....now he's gone and all this pitty. Which is it? I saw they posted the head of sales and marketing.....so I guess this is all temporary anyway. Not sure i understand why they would create all this disruption and not have the new person ready to go at the same time. The sales will be worse than ever, that is for certain......

You are wrong. Mark did listen and we received alot of good things under his leadership. You have to remember the things that were wrong. No salary increases last year. Mark did not make that decision. The quotas Mark inherited them and in fact he put in the kicker to help because he knew the quotas were high. Remember Mark had a boss to and a leadership team that he had to answer too. Many of the DMs including mine were promoted under Mark. Ya new VP will come in but he to will have to answer to these guys and TRUST me they just want to make us good look good so they can sell us. If you think they have your best intrest at heart you are wrong. The guy they let go today was that person.

Wake up people Mark was the first of many in the sales dept. New person will want to bring in his DM's and those DM's their reps. What happened today is the start of a complete reorganization and mass exodus. Everyone is going to be pointing fingers and blaming others. Mark took the Heat now hes gone. You are right about one thing the numbers will now get worse. Mark atleast had a positive attitude which made me get up and sell. I told one of my Derms today who knows Mark extremely well. His exact words were "Will your company ever get it. They can replace who ever they want but when you sell a drug like Solaraze that doesnt work what do you expect. I think you should leave because if you work for a company that let a guy like that go then I would hate to see what they will do to the reps in the future". Its a sad sad day.

Ya because all the change up to this point has been good right. When they let David go did this place getter better. Then when Lothar and his but boy RL took over what good came out of that. Then they hired Steve A. and then let him go and what good came out of that. So you are wrong we have had alot of change and No good opportunities came out of any of those changes. This one though was the biggest because now they effected 117 people many of who are very loyal to MS and rightfully so.

For every post that said he should go there are plenty of people who don't post on CP and much less to say MS should stay. People like talking about negative things and it makes for better reading.

Do I think MS was perfect, absolutely not. But I do believe his intensions were good and for a manager his overall perspective was to benefit us and to help us grow and succeed. Of course that being said, at the end of the day, he also wanted that bottom line to be met as well. It was all about the reps and it was all about the numbers.

Many people I'm sure are happy that he is gone. Most others sad and surprised. The thing is, as JB's message said-thanking him for his 17 years of service. If you look at MS's track record his has always been a good leader. Perhaps he made some mistakes along the way but who hasn't. But to be where he was for 17 years he had to have done something right. Just look at the past year alone-all these new managers that came and went in a matter of one or two years. There is something to be said for that. In my opinion anyways.

What this all comes down to is that once you have this much change in management and start up this much doubt and uncertainty for a company, nothing good ever comes of that. I had my issues with MS and didn't always see eye to eye with him. But when all is said and done he will land on his feet somewhere else at some point. What I struggle with is that these bafoons running the show rather have someone steer the ship temporarily all the while she can barely handle what she currently does without bitching and moaning about it instead of sittin down with MS to discuss the issues and try to correct them OR I could even see if they were bringing in one of their own. But to cut the ties so abruptly to someone who has been here so long and demonstrated loyalty and loved to schmooze people as much as he did is just incomprehensible. As bad as some of you think he was, and agreed that I personally didn't always see eye to eye with him, but he was well liked out there and these doctors actually like him.

I think the company will be fine for a while. Someone else will come in and look busy fixing things. But some reps will leave and others will stay. They will waste more time hiring and less time having a fully staffed sales field who is out there selling everyday. To my knowledge sales turnover was pretty low. Overall people liked it here. I can assure you many of those attitudes have now changed. Yes in part due to loyalty to him. But on a bigger picture because of the shitty decisions and the negative affect they are having in the field. This is just really become completely unorganized and bad management. U don't let someone like that go without having plan B in motion. This looks very very bad and perception is everything.

The last post was a good one. First off nobody is perfect including MS but darn right he did many many things right. This is actually my first ever post on CP and I just felt like I had too. I personally liked MS alot. He had ridden with me twice and both times brought me immediate business. My doctors loved him and still ask me after meeting him only once how he is doing. He definetly left a GOOD lasting impression. If you think MD will do that just wait and see that disaster. So for any that posted or will post take it from someone who personally knows MS for over 7 years he was a good leader and has lead this company through many difficult times. I personally am hurt by the news and I know the company made a bad decision yesterday. It was obvious this new team didnt even give him a chance and thats ashame. As for MS I can not wait to see where he lands because I know I will be making that phone call.

I personally knew MS for a year and I very much liked him. He knew most 117 reps by name and I was always impressed at the end of meetings he made sure he stayed and tried to say goodbye to everyone and thank them as they were leaving. He knew how to build unity and really tried to foster a team atmosphere. He knew his stuff and was a true sales leader. He will be missed here and agree with the one post I do not feel the same way about this company today as I did yesterday. I am not looking forward to when my docs find out. He was well known by many of my doctors and well liked. My biggest doctor had dinner with him last year and still talks about MS. Every time I see him he says say Hi to Mark (thats after just one meeting so MS was definetly doing something right)

Maybe they want us to leave? The only thing they didn't do yesterday was send out a memo saying "freshen up your resume and start looking." But they did everything else to support that. I am out of here. Maybe when 90% of us leave, they will finally get the message.

Obviously all of you that are giving such glowing remarks about this guy are from NY and NJ. He never cared one bit about anyone south of these two states and he never showed any affection towards any of us. I know he never rode with any of us in my district. He was just partial to all of the reps in the north and all those that constantly won Prez Club (I do remember tears from him as he announced one rep from NY - how touching). I do believe that is called "forced ranking". We all knew he knew about selling that one product off label up north that prompted some investigating. I heard he was a super nice guy during the Bradley merge but I never saw it. I was on an elevator once with him with my name badge on and said hello and he could have cared less. I am from the original PharmaDerm days and miss that upper leadership terribly. MM was wonderful and wish he was still with the company but as we move on, life changes. I do feel for the displaced reps that are still looking for jobs and remember what MS said at the last NSM. "We will not be rehiring any of the displaced reps back". Well, I guess now he knows how it feels....... MS, what goes around - comes around.....

Give me a break - what are you smoking this early in the morning ???? He DID NOT know that many reps by name. He NEVER said good bye to me - just his peeps, maybe. I heard how at this last sales meeting, he was still looking at name badges to call people by name. Never called on my docs. Would have loved to have had him in the the territory and my manager tried several times. He just worked with his buddies. I am in awe of people putting him on a pedestal.

haven't you been listening for the last 1 1/2 years???? People have been warning us to freshen up our resumes all of the time....... Mine has been ready for a while. Don't leave - believe me I still have friends from Nov that are still looking and with all of these other companies laying off (Pfizer did yesterday), the competition is stiff.

Who cares if he didn't say good bye to you. You're either not young and pretty or an under achieving rep. Guaranteed if you were one of those two he would know your name.

The bottom line here is that this is bad for morale. You don't remove someone from leadership to temporarily have some incompetent nimwad lead the pack. How is MD better equipped to do what MS didn't? Can anyone tell me how this decision came about? How is a Product Manager capable of this role? The big picture here is that they are in over their heads on this. Who is to say the next person they bring on will be better suited? They do not even know who is going to take over as they are going to interview. So this is just another coin toss!!
