Manager access not allowed

Anybody else see that offices are not allowing managers to come back to the sample closet on field visits? It is way bad here. And, it is getting worse by the day. My manager told me that if she cant come back, she will have to score me low on some of the competencies because she cant "observe" my interactions with physicians. What kind of a joke is this? Its not my fault that the offices wont let her back-or any other manager for that reason.

Hmmm...is the new rule no see, no do? Even 10 field trips is not a true life.

Document you manager doesnt want you to go to see important customers because of her access issue. The reason so many offices dont allow managers is because they try to beat up the MD or upstage them. In truth they appreciate the hard working rep who they know is always supporting there business. They cant always see us but the know..Bad manager..Take her to see the silver 7 and go thru the motions..

Your manager is a fucking idiot then. Welcome to the new access model. If you have an appt. For this office go see and sample them ,leave asshole in waiting room and document everything.....obvious you are not in metro city, we have experienced this forever and our managers know. Just go to accessible offices leave off the black holes..

I don't understand why any physician would see a manager. They certainly do not provide any additional value to an office, they take way more time as they try to get into 20 questions with a physician and then show their overwhelming ignorance of disease, products and accounts in general. Most offices know this and are now refusing access to worthless managers who try to demonstrate "coaching". Physicians just don't have time for this bull shit any more. They seem to do it only as a favor to the rep., they think it helps the rep. but of course it does not, only opens them up to criticism. Next merck thinks they can get away with the "three way" (rep. dm,rd) what a cluster fuck that is dragging two suits around. As a rep the above poster is right: see docs with access, carefully document offices and the managers evaluation of offices were there is none. Ask the manager how many "observations" he/she needs, usually it's 3-4 and then figure out a way to waste away the rest of the day. Meanwhile companies support the antiquated farce that is a manager.

well i cant tell you that a merck manager was responsible for getting all reps tossed from an office. If they continue to do this, and coach us-i think thats the word they use-its going to happen a lot more often than it is now. One of my biggest providers told me that he is considering calling the HR people and complaining about this particular manager, until he eventually will lose his job. He wont even use a merck drug because of my manager. And, my manager doesnt even know it. This ass thinks he can do whatever he wants because he used to call on this territory as a rep many years ago. He sucked ass back then too-nobody liked him and he didnt even know it. the managers time is coming. they have ruined it for themselves. i think if the powers that be were to know that access to managers is being denied on such a frequent basis, maybe that is where the cuts should start. Get rid of them. They provide no value on a call anyway. Sorry managers, its true. Stay in your office

Play the game. Call on accessible offices only on field visits. My manager made a similar comment. He does not want to see a real normal day.

This means a lunch and sit down and wait for the doc. Stand up with a manager is a big tick off for docs. Normal day is 8AM conference call, drive to pick up samples and supplies, drive, sit wait, quick see and sign, teleconference, drive to the next and repeat then drive to the lunch, wait, talk and leave and another teleconference, repeat AM call routine two or three more times, drive to sample center, drop and drive home, do computer work, take tests till lights out. What is the need to see a manager all about? Little to evaluate other than ROI in terms of sales and customer customer scores.

My manager worked with my the past several weeks and ended up asking one of my docs way too many questions. Really, it was some really stupid questions. No wonder they dont want them back there. Hey managers-I think you better get used to this kind of treatment. If mine keeps giving me a hard time about seeing the same docs over and over and over, she will be in for another huge surprise. these managers-they are terrible. ok, now its time for one of the kool-aid managers to come in and tell us how valuable you are to our docs, and how much value you provide by your "modeling" things for us. whoever came up with that anyway?

problem with us as well-manager seems to not mind seeing the same ones over and over. dickweed has learned to keep mouth shut, but customers still dont like interaction with manager there-more high pressure than it normally is, putting the screws to them, closing them, etc. I think they know it too but are just trying to find a way to justify their jobs

With too many manager calls they may say enough! No more reps.

not many more places to take my manager with the monthly ride alongs. walked in a clinic the other day, 9 reps, 8 managers-all within 30 minutes of each other. it was CRAZY! this will be a no see clinic for managers too because they know and respect the reps who have been calling on them for years. well, lets be honest mostly for the samples. the ctl's have no value in front of the customer. stay in the waiting room and get real comfy out there. its where you will end up. just a matter of time in our geography

Manager use is discuss accounts, give suggestions and a sometimes lunch apt. No other use. Once every 3 months is enough for any experienced rep. New or need a babysitter then once a month.

Old Merck - a manager did not ride with tenured reps as often. May be once every 2 to 3 months. More to get feedback about the district and share some new ideas. The manager was more like an advocate for you.

New Merck - manager comes every month. They keep increasing their "field visit time". The reality is the manager has to participate in teleconferences while working with you, or head home early to be in one. He/she may end up spending only a few hours with you. That can mess up the rep's day as you have to turn around and drive him/her back to the parking lot then. The manager's multitasking disrupts a rep's day.

Old Merck - manager was usually quiet during a call, observed and then shared ideas after a sales call.

New Merck - the urgency factor. Manager tends to jump into a sales call and model for you. Then they think they are hot shit in showing you how to do it the right way.

managers to discuss accounts: yes
managers to give suggestions: yes, but only if its real
managers at sometimes lunch: probably not-this gives them too much time to ask their 20 question game along with the extra pressure and stress they put the reps under to ask 20 stupid questions because they cant

the manager position is at least 5 years obsolete. they don't hire/cant really fire. admin. is or can be delegated or is automated. as for the silly "ride alongs" could/should be done by a regional trainer - more effecient, cheaper, more objective. smart managers have taken on reponsability for large or difficult accounts and partner with a rep to "move the needle" but most managers are too inept and lazy to do that so instead they show up once a month, like menses, grill the rep. demand a show then go play golf on their "office day". but if you starting cutting all the "waste of space" positions at merck, well were would it lead? the whole industry is beginning to resemble blockbuster video. why would I go stand in line at a store when I have "on demand'? There aint even a blockbuster in my town any more.

Most other industries don't have managers with reps more than a partial day or two a year. Managers are responsible for one or a few big accounts and oversee rep business from a distance. Judged on doing business. Our new "passing" compentency rating is a you must get a very unlikey and no less than perfect day, when I see "it." Dont see it? Not performing....access or not! What a system set for failure.
