couple questions if you could assist I'd appreciate:
1. How big is the Treanda sales force?
2. Salary for reps? Bonus?
3. Culture at Teva/Cephalon these days.
Thanks
The Sales force is too big, somewhere around 95 reps.
Salary depends on experience, it's okay.
Bonus is the worst in Oncology. They hold back 25% each quarter. You will get the 25% back in the Feb bonus check each year. Bonus amounts to approx 3 grand net after taxes, 25% retention, 401k....etc.. There are no stock plans except for a stock purchase plan which is a great deal. This is so distant from the days when a Cephalon Oncology rep could make 6 times the net mentioned above. What's really interesting is Cephalon sold somewhere around a half billion dollars worth of Treanda last year with 70 reps.... the ratio of bonus to that sales figure is alarming....very stingy company at this point.
If you are new to Oncology you might think it's okay because you made it into Oncology etc... If you are a veteran oncology rep, the only reason you go there is if you were fired, laid off etc...... Cephalon has some of the best veteran oncology reps in the business. The only reason those people are still around is due to lack of other jobs. Cephalon can't attract good experienced Oncology reps from other companies anymore. They just lost two in the last six weeks. They are expecting a new CML drug to be approved sometime around the beginning of the year....
It's not real Oncology culture. it's really primary care with call reporting and 75% new reps . The management team is the worst and most inexperienced in the industry. The Chicago,Great Lakes and Mid-Atlantic areas have the best managers. The rest have either no experience, micro etc..... or aren't really focused because they are trying to leave. Cephalon is under a CIA with the government which means compliance is foremost. The emphasis there is no longer on sales but on account management. If you are a true sales professional you will be frustrated.
There is no guarantee you will have a job in a year. Their new product- CML, is rumored to have major issues and may not gain approval. Cephalon is now under a generic company umbrella(Teva) and upper management at Cephalon has demonstrated a ruthless ability to just lay people off; furthermore Teva may decide to scrap Cephalon management at some point which could also result in the building of a new culture/sales force and possibly lay-offs. Good luck....
