The Sales force is too big, somewhere around 95 reps.

Salary depends on experience, it's okay.

Bonus is the worst in Oncology. They hold back 25% each quarter. You will get the 25% back in the Feb bonus check each year. Bonus amounts to approx 3 grand net after taxes, 25% retention, 401k....etc.. There are no stock plans except for a stock purchase plan which is a great deal. This is so distant from the days when a Cephalon Oncology rep could make 6 times the net mentioned above. What's really interesting is Cephalon sold somewhere around a half billion dollars worth of Treanda last year with 70 reps.... the ratio of bonus to that sales figure is alarming....very stingy company at this point.

If you are new to Oncology you might think it's okay because you made it into Oncology etc... If you are a veteran oncology rep, the only reason you go there is if you were fired, laid off etc...... Cephalon has some of the best veteran oncology reps in the business. The only reason those people are still around is due to lack of other jobs. Cephalon can't attract good experienced Oncology reps from other companies anymore. They just lost two in the last six weeks. They are expecting a new CML drug to be approved sometime around the beginning of the year....

It's not real Oncology culture. it's really primary care with call reporting and 75% new reps . The management team is the worst and most inexperienced in the industry. The Chicago,Great Lakes and Mid-Atlantic areas have the best managers. The rest have either no experience, micro etc..... or aren't really focused because they are trying to leave. Cephalon is under a CIA with the government which means compliance is foremost. The emphasis there is no longer on sales but on account management. If you are a true sales professional you will be frustrated.

There is no guarantee you will have a job in a year. Their new product- CML, is rumored to have major issues and may not gain approval. Cephalon is now under a generic company umbrella(Teva) and upper management at Cephalon has demonstrated a ruthless ability to just lay people off; furthermore Teva may decide to scrap Cephalon management at some point which could also result in the building of a new culture/sales force and possibly lay-offs. Good luck....

Don't listen to the above posts.

Started here after being laid off from another oncology company.. this place is so freaking easy. They have easy MBO's here; no real commissions because of a CIA agreement which is why no real sales quotas or goals (NO sales pressure !) Just easy check off the box business plans (using your promotional pieces/dropping off textbooks/doing teleconferences/using your NAM). PLEASE its what people in pharma do everyday. I can still leave my house at 11:30, do a lunch and be home in time to take my kids to soccer and piano !! Management doesn't care as long as you complete the territory plans. This is because we are "Customer service Reps" not salespeople so they never pressure us to sell. To make six figures and drop off resources an hour or so everyday is like "winning the lottery" if you ask me. The DM's get it too. My DM flys in once a quarter, buys me breakfast and we talk about the territory. He then buys me lunch and flys out the next day ! He said he has too much paperwork with signing off on the business plans to do anything else. I really hope they give me more busy work....it'll give me a chance to go to Starbucks and "hang" for a couple hrs while I bang out appointments on my cell and finish busy work MBO Goals in the comfort of an A/C environment; Teva is the best big pharma job out there !!

Obviously sarcasm above, based upon some level of truth. Not sure what region this person is from but in recent months my manager has been measuring my territory sales trend in this semester vs. prior semester. He claims it is a relevant secondary measure of performance for which senior management is measuring all territories and regions. I for one am happy to have these objective parameters as part of my performance measurement.

Listen you idiot..... This type of post will work against all of us. Management reads this and realizes they shouldn't be paying bonuses etc etc......Especially with folks at the top who never worked as reps. How can you blame them for giving us the most horrible comp plan in the industry after making stupid comments like this. You should worry about how expendable you are. This company has demonstrated they will lie and layoff. They did it earlier with 15 or so Oncology reps who were let go after everyone was told the division was safe. Rather than writing stupid posts like the one above, you should be working diligently on finding another job where you can truly maximize your earnings, skill set and hopefully find Management which is 50% honest. Quit underestimating your value, it will shine through in interviews.
