You realize that the whole point of ecosystems, customer engagement and blah blah is just one thing: restructuring, downsizing and cuts.
They will tell you to have XYZ mindset. They will tell you the future is bright. They will tell you they are doing it for you - for your development and growth.
While all BA is really doing is delivering on his promise to BOD and SS: Genentech will maintain its margins no matter what happens with biosimilars and launches.
Genentech has never faced a patent cliff before. When other companies face such a point: they buy something, they sell themselves or they do a larger merger of equals —- or they go through multiple rounds of restructurings. These options, at face value, weren’t the “Genentech way” so they had to come up with another idea. So the idea was to shuffle everything around - create chaos, chnage and uncertainty. This allowed them to break existing processes, loyalty, teams, culture and mindset. The goal of this shuffling was it created an environment to be able to justify the cuts and trim the fat so BA could deliver on his promises.
Will things change? No, not in the near term. Leadership will tell you they have ever confidence in customer engagement and ecosystem model. They will tell you it’s better for you. If you’re savvy - play along and they’ll reward you. That’s part of the gaslighting process - creating 360 surround sound around the hold outs. It will keep going on until one thing happens: Genentech returns to positive topline growth in the US. This will happen in 2022 or 2023. Until then, expect further cuts, changes and shuffling - its all just downsizing with another name.
You can blame leadership. They didn’t have a choice. I would have preferred them be straightforward instead of doing this gaslighting thing they are doing but hey, what do I know?
