Jobs, Education and Debt
Every once in awhile you see some story that absolutely shocks you.
As President Obama is touring the country touting education, one of his bills introduced to congress asks that all education entities post graduation statistics as the student loan debt is spiraling out of control. They listed a website that supplies statistics that literally floored me (
www.collegeresults.org or
www.oedb.org).
The websites post graduation statistics and student loan percentages. It also talked about post secondary education and online education and its lack of success. The details that shocked me the most were traditional four-year degree programs and the University of Phoenix. Although the large percentage of Americans borrows money to pay for education, the success is somewhat questionable. In fact, the average four-year college only graduates after 6 years, 64% of the enrolled students. That would indicate that 36% borrow government funds yet fail to utilize the college education as expected. Now the real bomb! The largest college in the U.S. is actually the University of Phoenix. They have 241,832 enrolled online students. Yet, only 4.2% of the students actually come away with a degree. That would indicate that 95.8% borrow money to pay the $12,840 dollar annual tuition. Now you quickly see the problem that the government is worried about. How do you pay back the student loans? After all, people pay for education to further their careers and hope of landing that right job.
Interestingly enough, we too work in the education arena. We have an 8-week training program that offers specialized education in preparation for a career in medical sales. The difference is that we are a fraction of a college or online education program yet our graduation rate and more important placement rate of students are off the charts. Our placement rate (those that obtain jobs in medical sales post training) is actually 18% higher than the GRADUATION rate at traditional four-year programs. 81% of our graduating students are now in medical sales. Almost all of them with no previous medical sales experience.
Because we offer something unique to the medical sales industry, we have seen our customer base skyrocket and more important have now seen 400 plus students enjoying their career in medical sales. We currently through our placement services arm (
www.aimedsales.com) have over 129 open positions and are doing interviews with the actual employers in 39 cities just in the next three weeks.
If you have a desire to get into the exciting field of medical sales, I encourage you to reach out to me. We also recently have expanded the recruitment arm adding 20-territory specific outside recruiters to the already 17 internal recruiters. Most of which, you can find on LinkedIn.
We believe this is a great growing industry and you can network with several other people that can help with resume writing, career coaching as well as traditional recruiting that are more than happy to help you out with your career aspirations.
