July 2015

how is the ass-ymetrical deployment movement coming along? is this ongoing, like monthly? or every 3-6 months? the company did this in 2013 and some territories near my own were affected, but mine was not. in 2013, i was told it started with a conference call from regional, then a few weeks waiting period for ctl phone call, then a one week "inactive" or warn period, then severed. it was lowest person in cluster who got the boot (at the time, went from 5 up to 4 up with handraising offered). also, i was told that they (not sure who from above) looked at profitability in each area and from there made the determination of who would be downsized. i am curious if that is the way they are proceeding with these rounds. can anyone who recently experienced this, give us the current details? any one team safer?

for anyone calling bs - hopefully your area won't be targeted, but trust me these cuts are quietly happening. if you haven't heard about it, then your area isn't being affected currently.

Based on conference calls the layoffs will continue with next planed for mid June. Slice the meat a little at a time and Nation sales force won't notice if they don't hear about it in their market. Exe. Leaders said it will continue as reach and freq declines. They won't give out the formula for calculating what is a profitable terr. Now they throw in competency as wiggle room to layoff. Rep. What comes first sales results or subjective competencies?

F&R with highest producing customers getting the calls. Its the way of biotech, small niche and contract companies. This is why so many of these reps have large, spread out territories.

These companies have no BS rep title ranking and no 1,2,3 or LER mumbo jumbo. We all know this is puff and pluff and protection for reps doing the same dang thing...or having a pal in the field called manager.

Who is this mystery consulting company?

Judging by how cuts were done last June it must be a D- rated company run by cheap labor buffoons. Last year June was a time of shock and surprise for a lot of good, excellent and sometimes amazing reps and ctls.

This year we know best practice includes watching your buttocks. Give them some extra care and coverage. No cracks showing if your pants happen to slide. Those sales and competencies are super malleable and prone to the winds of change and surprise.

ZS Associates

ZS Associates..really? Those bastards have been mucking up territory alignments since the 80's. That's funny if true. Back in the day when DISTRICT MANAGERS existed at Merck and were given some freedoms in the management and direction of their district, a fellow rep and I would always be brought in by our DM after ZS did their thing to fix the messes they had created at the territory level. Talk about a good time....now those were really the good old days.

You got that right! (after the "realignment") "Oh...you mean that rep lives five minutes from this territory (rep that won a trip, and worked territory for 10+ years), and they gave it to the rep that has to drive 1.5 hours to see the closest account in that territory? Well, we had nothing to do with this, it was from an outside "consultant group".

If you don't like the travel you do have an option. Of course, at the end of that ride you can accomplish your objective for the day / delislinger. After you piss off the client you can drive home. All in a days work!

Provides you with a big encouragement and downright necessity to leave....

For any rep this just can't be sustained..

For managers with office days and optional hotel coverage its ok.

Schering-legacy here again....I love coming back to this board every once in a while...Wow! I left the company 3 years ago and I still enjoy hearing that Merck people are still backstabbing and sweating it out. The district I was in had the noses so far up the managers Arss I couldn't take it anymore. Merck Reps= lack of talent, creativity, personality, humanity etc....I'm sure you will become great relators!
