I work at amgen. ask me anthing. I'll answer honestly

You clearly don’t work at Amgen and have never been through an acquisition. Not even remotely how this is going to go down.

You must have been top of your class in business school. Overpaying for assets to bring in immediate revenue is one thing. Raising your costs across the board is another thing entirely.

The costs for reps is increasing regardless of this buyout. Amgen is one of the lowest paid in the industry. They have to match benchmarks. The Horizon buyout will help them get to where they need to be to attract and keep top talent.

I think its hysterical that Amgen (and Horizon) feel they are so patient focused. Every single company in the industry feel they are patient focused and have the best product for improving patient lives. I found it nauseating listening to the Amgen "SPOC" talk about how she was pre-med but instead decided to take a job with Amgen because of the focus on patients. I hate people like this- be honest and don't make up stories. You took a job at Amgen because you couldn't get into med school and at the time Amgen presented the best offer for a job. You didn't go get your MBA because you thought you could help people more. You got your MBA because you couldn't make it in med school You didn't turn down offers at "several other companies" because Amgen made you feel the best- you turned down the other offers because the pay and benefits were less.

I can already see what the culture is at Amgen. Smoke and mirrors. In 2022 Amgen had 26.3 billion in revenue and made 6.5 Billion for a 24% profit. Its about profit and nothing is wrong with that- medicine shouldn't be free. But you pay your reps poorly, offer sub par benefits outside a 401k, and give barely any RSU.

Sigh, I’m going to miss the culture at Horizon. I feel like Amgen (other than the 401k and additional vacation) is going to be a real SS.

Lol! The Chemocentryx reps did/do get paid more than the other Amgen reps. Amgen just gave them a different title (KAM) to avoid adjusting the bands for the other reps.

You will. I miss the Celgene culture. It was just honest. Here we have to fake enthusiasm on calls and if you don't hit the emoji button or jump out of your seat with cheers for talking heads on stage, you will be targeted. The culture is to fake calls so that the KPI dashboard that TO sees make Ian, Lucky Charms and Big ol Bob feel good. Doesn't matter if it's fake.
