How much longer will PC be around?

The industry as once known is over.

And has been for at least 10 yrs. we will soon be all 1099's or with contract sales scrambling for a job, and a shitty one at that.
Sad thing is we did this to ourselves with bombarding drs with armies of reps, exorbitant pricing of mostly me-too drugs, and very bad pr.
Reps hve been reduced to caterers and samplers.....dont need to be paying six figures, benes, car, etc to do that. Consolidation will continue until it will be 5-10 companies owning the pharma world.

Nailed it.

Sure did! One change, make it 20 yrs ago.
Will have 38 yrs. in pharma in various positions before I retire this year. Experienced all the good, bad, and ugly. The bad and the ugly only got worse every year, while the good dwindled rapidly to what you have now.
The final end to pharma will come when Medicare can negotiate prices with pharma., and/or a single payor system takes over. Long overdue, and I hope Trump does it to end the endless greed that has taken over medicine as a whole. It's disgusting to see the prices charged by drs., hospitals, and pharma, yet we rank in the lower half of the major countries in positive outcomes/quality of care, while ranking Number one in cost of care.
Greed, my friends and colleagues, has destroyed our healthcare system.

Remember all the decadent meetings from the '90s? Pharma made the Wolf of Wall Street look like amateur hour. Crazy money spent in those days. Not to mention all the doctors who had there hands out looking for grants, weekend resort meetings and speakers fees. Before the 90s pharma was driven by science, then marketing took over and killed what ever was left of integrity. Thankfully pharma guidelines were enacted which improved the situation but we never fully recovered. Now pharma jobs are punchlines on sitcoms.

I was separated after more than 30 years with Merck. Fortunately I will get a severance and a good pension but I agree regarding 20 years ago vs 10 years ago. I've been in the industry 33 years and have certainly benefited from it but the deterioration began years ago. The last 20 years have been a slow slide from our once admired status. I think all industries have their issues pharma's are so entrenched that there is no way to get back to our prior status. In spite of Primary Care's importance it is such a bleak place to be. Those with years of experience and at the top of their pay scales should hang on for dear life but those with less tenure should definitely look elsewhere. There are areas within pharma/biotech that will offer promise but please choose wisely.

These big pharma companies really wear on you. Once you leave you realize how unimportant it all was. If I was a young person (and if science oriented) go for something more rewarding and without all of the b.s.

Agree. Hoping for a severance package to be offered in 2017--sooner the better. Can't stand the thought of even one more ride along. Need the package and bridge to retirement.

Understandably, those ride alongs are brutal. Too much mental stress and pressure along with performance and the day and the review and adjusting to the personalities of management. Yuk.
