Hill-Rom

Isn't it time for the annual pre Christmas let some good employees go party Or is HR getting soft? It's laughable the way it was always spun as being beneficial to the company by the human resources drones. Soulless bunch they are! Where do they find people like that?

Good question! Where do they find people like that? I know in the past that it ended up coming full circle for some and the hammer also slammed down on them. Never forget that what goes around comes around so for the snakes within, your time will come too. I am planning on leaving soon but my biggest concern is that my résumé will be stained with the HILL-ROM infested blood forever. I will have to "own" the fact that I worked here, darn it......

This kind of job puts you in a tough situation. Out of device into a less sexy sale that will make it harder to get back into device, but the opportunity to make more money than you currently are. I think 200-300k is on the high side. Their top reps probably do that, but it would take new projects (new hospitals, renovations, etc) in the territory to do that.

I'd find out Hill Rom's market share versus the competition in the territory, then try to find out new hospitals and surgery centers currently being built and being planned in the next few years. You need big projects to make big cash in these jobs.

Just as an aside, if you get into project type business and you have a strong position, you can always do well. I'm in capital equipment and am bringing in over 1 million in revenue off of one new hospital this year. I know the Stryker stretcher rep has 500k in revenue from this deal. Just fyi.

What is the total compensation (salary, bonus, benefits) for a sales manager for beds at Hill Rom or Stryker?

I left HILL-ROM a few years ago due to a decrease in salary and commission. A territory rep was averaging in the 50k range and commission wasn't much more. As the CEO mentioned; all profits were going right back into the company so that in itself was a testimonial which indicated that the employees' compensation was not going to increase. If you are interested in an actual management position (regional director of sales, etc.), I am not sure about the compensation in those positions. I do remember that the turn over for the directors was very high and there appeared to be a lot of disorganization. There were a certain few who were far more interested in their haircuts, treadmills, and vacations than the daily operations of the company.

What forme HR folks work here?? I know of no one. Guy named Bain is President came from Journs. Met him at a show, not sure how much he really knows about the business. They had a HR rep in Georgia but he as since left. Only other guy is a head hunter McClam. Used to be some high end sales guy left in a cloud of dust over some deal he lost. So not sure what you are speaking of here regarding HR folks at Linet. I like the product. just not sure how well positioned they are with GPO and IDN's
