FEXMID 7.5mg...hahaha

I am the one who said my doc said it wouldn't make me drowsy in the morning. Well, this makes no damn sense why he gave me samples...as I was taking a 10 mg of Flexeril and breaking it in half at night before I go to bed. Even half was making me feel drowsy and dopey in the mornings. I take it because I have Fibromyalgia Syndrome and my pain keeps me awake. The Flexeril puts me to sleep and I can usually sleep the night thru without waking up. Taking the Fexmid didn't change anything. So all he was doing was pushing this drug on me (wow, usually FMS'ers have a hard time getting what they WANT from a doc when it comes to med's...now I have one PUSHING it on me).
Anyway, I'll stick with my Flexeril. That way, if I need something stronger than 7.5 mg., I'll have it.
Typical pharmaceutical company business I guess. I know all about that. I was a Redux victim.

This has to be one of the dumbest things that I have ever seen as a pharmacist. This is a drug company taking a 38 cent molecule, making it a brand (with no generic), and pushing it as something that is "unique". Since when is the 5 mg flexeril too low or the 10 mg too high that we need a product like this. This reminds me of Pexeva or some of the metormin products that have hit the market. The makers of this medication have themselves in mind. In no way does this help the patient. I personally vow to get Every script that I get for this changed when I see it.

Some physicians swear that the 5mg is not effective for some patients and the 10mg is too sedating. Is the 7.5mg for every patient? No, but no drug is. Also, please keep in mind that generic companies do not do research. Pharmacist only care about $$$, the patients only complain to the doctor when a product has side effects or lack of efficacy. So pharmacists opinion does matter as much as it did 50 years ago.

sounds like you need a new doctor

Yes, I understand the whole business of making a generic medication and the whole business of making a brand name medication. I constantly have to explain why Levaquin is 11$ a pill and not covered on medicade but Cipro is generic and is covered with pretty much the same antibiotic spectrum. My point was that before the 5 mg flexeril went generic, most insurances did not cover it. Most pharmacies dispensed the 10mg tab in generic and labeled that the patient break it in half. In the world of HSA's and Medicare GAPs, the cost of the Fexmid is ridiculous. Here's the good question: Is it ethical to have this medication at this cost for an elderly patient on Medicare that pays a 5$ copay for it, but then reaches their GAP(where they pay 100%) that much faster? These patients have no idea about this. Also, I (pharmacists) do care more about clinical efficacy than money. I care that there are medications that work for patients and I care that the right medications for the right patients are picked (indifferent to cost because that is the patient's responsibility to pay for the medication, not mine, and not anyone elses), but I do see this as ridiculous because everyone is complaining about the Medicare system, Medicaid system, and the general healthcare industry in terms of spending and we have a DRUG COMPANY coming out and making the pricey medication and telling us just how great it will be for people when spending is absolutely out of control Think about it, this company is contributing to a broken system.

Very self-righteous of you, Mr. or Mrs. Pharmacist. New flash-all companies are in business to make money. No pharmaceutical company or any other company should ever apologize for that goal. As with any medication, some patients will benefit from it and others will not. It is always better for HCPs to have more options for treating patients. It is the HCP's decision to rx or not to rx certain meds.

Nobody is trying to put down a free-market society here. But, I think that patients should not be taken advantage of. If this is your company's main bread winner, then I think that you are going to be in a world of hurt, because patients can only take so much "price gouging", and doctors can only take so much complaining about it until they abandon the whole idea. I am sure I will see your resume on Monster.com soon.

If you think this is price gouging you should look up the price of Procrit or Remicade. By the way, generic companies do not do research. If you read your statements carefully, you actually are putting down a free market ecomony. Period.

In response, I would like to state that I have no problem with the overall costs of medications. I really don't. Not even the costs of Remicade or Procrit. Chemo meds are out of this world and that does not bother me. For example: It aggrevates me more than anything to hear people complain over the cost of Nexium, Aciphex, Protonix when the insurance does not cover it. While these people are not even considering the OTC Prilosec or making the lifestyle changes necessary to not even need these meds. "Well, you can lose weight, stop eating tobasco on everything, and stop smoking." But, people are not interested and that is very aggrevating to hear them whine and moan about it. In no way would I ever put down the economy. Heck I actually like the high gas prices. I constantly remind the people who complain that the oil companies are making 7% a year, which is less than my company makes. But, I really do feel like the makers of Fexmid are going to be hurting due to the small market share you will probably have. Most of the time these people would have been on Flexeril 5 or 10 at another time and will ask what the difference is. They will be told and surely wonder why it costs so much and if they can change.

I hear you, but we are not J&J, so if we do $3-5M in sales we will be VERY successful. We only have just over 100 employees, and the sales have been climbing every week!!!!

message to the pharmacist....if you knew what was best for the patients, you would have a MD or DO in front of your name....why is it that pharmacists think they have prescribing power....5 yrs of school or 10+ years of school....who would you trust to give you the best medication...hmmmm

woohoo! 36 scripts from top Fexmid rep!!! what a joke. Victory should be worried if they are praising reps for these numbers on Fexmid.

for the idiot who thinks pharmacists just count pills get out of the 50s. how many hours of class do drs receive in medications. try 1 year. 1 year vs 6 years not 5 years. pharmacists are now consider very valuable resources just ask your dr. by the way you must fill your scripts at a big chain like walgreens or cvs. try a independent pharmacy or one connected with a drs office. it is amazing the difference. pharmacists are the most trusted profession. do not knock this valuable resource

I agree, pharmacists are a valuable resource. However, when a patient has prescription drug coverage, a coupon or card worth $50 off the copay and STILL the pharmacist tries to flip the script....that's when I have a problem. The patient was written an Rx for a certain med by a DOCTOR. If the patient has a problem with price or copay, and they say something to the pharmacist, OK, they have a right to talk to the patient about saving money. But when the patient has a copay of $10 due to coverage and card/coupon, and the pharmacist STILL tries to convert the Rx to generic is when I have a problem. It is ridiculous the amount of unnecessary phone calls and faxes to Dr offices trying to flip Rxs that were written for a reason and the patient can afford.

Recently saw a Dr. and asked him about the flxmed in the storage. Dr. was not even aware it was there. Victory reps doing a real bang up job on sample dropping.
After we looked at it we both got a good laugh out of a 7.5mg.

One more thing, I seriously doubt a $50 co-pay card is going to help.

I just recently heard 2 Pfizer reps bashing Victory while I was on a plane. The only statement that they could come up with was that Victory's budget is only $600,000 while theirs was $600 million. hahaha, get a life. Just because you can drop some samples and then take the doctor to a bunch of dinners does not make you a successful sales rep. The fact that Victory has a low budget and is STILL growing at an exceptional rate and turning profits just goes to show you that their sales force is that much better. And yeah the Pfizer reps also had a laugh over Fexmid 7.5, but when I promote that product to my doctors and they write the scripts for it, they certainly aren't laughing. As someone who has needed to take cyclobenzaprine before, anything to help me wake up for work a little bit easier certainly helps.

Just so you know, Fexmid 7.5 has the same efficacy as the Flexeril 10 mg. So you're not really getting any more pain relief as there is a ceiling effect that comes into play. So why take 10 mg of a drug when you can take less for the same effect? Especially if you're taking more than one medication at a time...

PHARMACISTS SUCK....6 YEARS MY ASS. MORE LIKE 1/2 OF A BACHELORS IN NOTHING, THEN 3 YEARS, THEN INTERNING. I TRUST MY DOC 100X MORE THAN MY PHARMACIST BECAUSE THEY ACTUALLY KNOW ABOUT THE BODY, NOT JUST MEMORIZE THE P.I. AND HOW CAN YOU BITCH ABOUT SCREWING THE PATIENT FOR $$, PHARMACISTS MAKE MORE $$ FOR FLIPPING TO A GENERIC. DOCTORS PRESCRIBE BRANDED MEDS BECAUSE THERE IS NOT IDENTICAL EQUIVALENT. I WISH I COUNTED PILLS IN A BOX 40 HOURS/WEEK.
