Does Vivitrol work? This is a legitimate question

I have empathy for those who suffer from addiction

Much like the media this appears to be more disinformation
why are there still posts for vivitrol here
Anytime an important topic is being disclosed here that looks close to the truth this thread pops up
If I am wrong I apologize to the sincere patient and recommend you visit the Alkermese board

Yes it is all a conspiracy and the Vivitrol thread is the key...

How amazing you are!!! You NAILED IT!!! I am so glad I read your message tonight!!You, are a gift from GOD!!!

OK kids... It's dose of reality time. I sold Vivitrol and felt it was the best drug I ever sold. But this must be noted. If the patient does not do AA or counseling or something... They will eventually fail. Sorry, it's the truth.

Alcoholism is both an unconscious addiction and a habit. After you do something for 23 days it becomes a habit that the brain recognizes and expects. The brain likes normalcy. It likes repetition. For example, if you play a softball game with your friends in a league and then go to the bar for a few drinks... and each week you do the same thing... Eventually after softball you expect and look forward to going to the bar. That is habit, not addiction.

If it becomes that you HAVE to go to the bar and start making excuses why you have to play this week instead of going to your kid's parent teacher meeting... That's addiction.

So, if you decide to take a shot and still play softball... The brain is going to expect to go to the bar to hang with your boys. Which is where the alcohol is. You will go... And eventually fail. In other words, you need to make life changes... New hobbies, friends, etc.

A diabetic does not just take insulin... They have to learn to avoid sugar, carbs, etc. Those are the necessary changes in life that need to be made for that patient to succeed.
It is the same for Vivitrol. I loved selling it, and feel it was a great product... But only when coupled with realistic expectations. You have to work to get better. Sorry, I know all Americans want a quick fix. But, you can't quick fix genetics.

That said, I know you can beat it. But, do not be fooled by these phony posts of people running in fields of daisies after one shot. It is a greuling and terrible road. But, it's also life and none of us can hide from that. We all have to deal with it and move on.

Sorry for the dose of reality. But, I'd rather be the bad guy on here and be the one person who said if you really need the true story... If you really are someone struggling and not some joker playing around. I want you to succeed, cause when it's good. Life is really good.

Best of luck!

hello everyone, i cant answer the question does vivitrol work. i havent yet started to get the shots, i was in a bad car accident and was put on pain meds for the pain and a year later not in that much pain but stuck trying to get off the pain meds (fentanyl patch). the most screwed up part was i went to a detox to get off the pain meds and they put me on suboxine, they didnt tell me that it was as hard if not harder to detox off of than the opiates. thats why i was here now trying to find out what the effects of the vivitrol will be i dont want to get on something that is as hard to get away from as the last thing i was on. also there was a post about dr. cassidy in southern cali earlier and i want to also say that he is the best dr i have ever come across he has so much energy and compassion for us addicts that he really makes you feel that there is hope even when you dont think ther is any. if you ever need a dr to be true to you and tell you the truth he is the one to go to. thanks for any info on the withdrawls of vivitrol. thanks and god bless

My husband is in the process of plowing through all his "yets". I believe he is desperate enough to try anything to help his alcoholism. He has been in AA for over 10 years, has a sponsor who he calls every day, goes to meetings 7 days a week. However, he can not seem to quit.

When we have discussed him trying meds, he throws up 2 road blocks. The first is, he is afraid that his work will find out about the drugs and his addiction, if he runs it through his insurance. He is an executive and is over the HR dept. I would think he would know if this was a true concern or not. Isn't he protected by HIPPA laws?

The second is; hardliner, old salts in AA say the drugs are a cop out. AA sayings run through his veins as the truth. I have a hard time buying into the fact that they know everything. But if he tries the drugs, while he is in his current AA group, he would not get support for doing so. When he was going to try the naltroxene pills before, he wasn't even going to tell his sponsor for fear of backlash. He never even took the pills, but at least he got to see a psychiatrist to get them (once).

Also, like everyone else here, I can't tell who is a rep and who is real. But are some folks saying that the Vivitrol works for drug addicts, but not alcohol? My DH drinks straight vodka, and in large quantities. He goes from sober to unconscious in no time, doesn't even stay in the buzzed zone long enough to enjoy any part of it. Knowing that he drinks that much, would the Vivitrol be a waste of time totally? Could he still drink over it?

does this shot work for gambling? i think that is the worst drug of choice lost my life saving family home and still continue to gamble. you can only do so many drugs and you will overdose

YES! I'm sober 6 months now & I'll swear by this shot. I went to an inpatient 30 treatment center that recommended it to me. I went 2 months without it after coming home but now it's time for me to step back into the real world & I'm not chancing anything without it! Where I'm from this shot isn't known. I tell everyone. Most people are opiate addicts & do not know of this drug because it was originally for alcohol. I tell everyone and anyone that will listen about Vivitrol! I am so thankful it is there for me. We are human & temptation is everywhere you go! Good Luck!

vivitrol definitely works i was an opiate addict for 3 years and rehab never worked for me, but after a rough 10 day detox i finally got my first shot. ive now been clean for over 5 months and have vivitrol to thank for it!

I had my first shot 2 weeks ago. Only one day has been alcohol free. We drank non-alcoholic beer during the superbowl. Other than that I've been alone a drinking as usual. Takes longer to feel it, but I definitely reach the same state as pre-shot.

I know I need to change my HABITS, but I was hoping for the miracle others have discussed.

My doctor ordered me Vivitrol about 3 weeks ago .. and last week I got a call from the Doctor's office, saying that the doctor had left the office.. Now the Office doesn't know where the Vivitrol is and I dont either.. What should I do??

How does the vivitrol compare to the pills? What is so much better, if anything to taking the pills? Naltrexone pills are much cheaper, so does the shot really feel and work better?
