Does anyone know what’s going on?

And everyone else. It isn’t arrogance, working within retina and the PE groups and providers that make up the specialty take a long time to map. And Astellas just consistently say “yeah ok, I think we know what we are doing. Thanks.”

Talk about arrogance and blind confidence! It’s a failing company because of folks who got lazy. You have three people doing what one did at iveric. And doing it poorly hidden behind of a wall of remit crap and pass the blame.

We are fighting to launch a drug still and Astellas and its culture is a huge anchor. Thanks!
Spot on. Izervay could (and should) be doing so much better than it is.

Thank you for being honest

Totally understand your frustration. Doesn’t sound too dissimilar to oncology in that respect. That said, Malignant Hem in particular is quite technical and we’ve seen a number of bright and capable “non experienced” people at the company learn oncology and become quite proficient. Buy and Bill, while different than orals, isn’t hard to get the hang of.
It sucks to feel like your value is being diluted, we’ve all worked hard to get where we are- but try to give the new folks joining your brand a hand and a chance. You were new once too!

Wow, you gotta love reps like you that imply no one can learn how to do what you do. You weren't born w buy & bill experience and yes there are others that can do exactly what your high ego implies. “Best in class sales reps”? How does your head fit through the door???
You couldn't handle one day in Retina

The problem is Astellas is REFUSING to interview anyone with experience. It's a horrible plan, especially in a launch situation. Reps are leaving. All but 2 Regional Managers are left. 1 with Retina experience and 1 with minimal eye experience in his past.

If you understand retina- which you obviously dont, its a very small sub- specialty of a sub specialty. It's extreamly relationship & peer- to- peer oriented. Access is a huge challenge for those who've sold in the field for years and closed off to those who aren't. 99% of contact is through appointment only. When managers have no relationship they cannot help drive business. Nor can they successfully advise their reps.

It's like hiring the manager of Walmost to be Head of sales while launching a drug targeted at $billions- saying everyone has to learn somewhere. What a great hired because they saw people in the store getting Rxs filled.

Why won't they allow legacy reps to interview? Why won't they allow highly successful Retina reps to interview?

What are the afraid of?

You want the truth? You can’t handle the truth! You are not some wizard with other worldly skills. You are not special, and you are an entitled, overpaid sales rep with skills that can be trained. Get over yourself and be happy that you are lucky enough to have a job making triple what you are worth.

Bless your heart. You've been at Astellas for 10+ years and are making less than half of a retina salary. I can't feel your pain- because I'll hit $300k+ while you're driving your stupid fleet car trying to save up for college tuition on your measly $120k thinking youre a bad ass for working in this $HIT HOLE. And no, you couldn't survive in retina.

This person makes a fair point in that you’ve got to have a majority of managers with Retina experience. These guys launching and at a new company that is in the middle of a massive transition/restructure. If there really are only two managers left with experience in Retina, then the team is rightfully pissed off and worried.
That said, your tone does read as pretty arrogant. There are a lot of quality people in this organization, so maybe check your attitude a bit if you’d like the support of your colleagues across the other brands here at Astellas.

A few growing pains, but Astellas grew to a 11 billion dollar company because they know what they are doing. Give it a minute and watch the trajectory go up and up. I hope we don’t lose any more good people. Be patient and be a team player. A good attitude is as valuable as having experience. Be the light in a time of darkness.

This more than a few growing pains. I seen first hand how favoritism and failing up affected this organization. I saw Lisa screw over people left and right and end careers with no accountability. Managers sleeping with reps and people sleeping their way up. No accountability. I saw good reps abandoned with no support from management.

Astellas had poor future planning for the pipeline. Egos from leadership got in the way. When Jim Robinson left, that was the beginning of the end. I hope Astellas can make a comeback. But, that is doubtful.

I agree Lisa was unqualified and thrived on mistreating and intimidating people. Her narcissism ruined many careers.

Get out while you can, Comm specialties next round of cuts will be with RSM's .....no need for 45 RSM's, that number will be reduced and the remaining mgr's will have larger teams...double territories should also be looking! sinking ship!!

What a bunch of gobbledygook!! We all know you are the loser that was fired cheating on your expense account! Go Away!

They will not come back because they never were a good company.
